REAVES, Mr. Raymond Junior - Age 74, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1181 Seymour Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Monday, November 4, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Reaves will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Friday, November 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM, with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends.Raymond Junior Reaves, age 74, made his transition from labor to reward on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Raymond was born in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of Loraine Poole and Jesse Mays. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Christ the King Catholic Church, where he was a member. In addition to singing in the choir, Raymond was a former Knight of Peter Claver Saint Martin Deplorers Assembly II Sir Knight, Detroit, Michigan. Raymond was educated in the Flint Public School System and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School in 1969—a proud Northwestern Wildcat. He was drafted right out of high school to serve in the United States Army. After completing his tour in Viet Nam, he was honorably discharged. After his stint in the Army, Raymond desired to continue his education and attended several colleges in the Flint area including Mott Community College, Baker College, and the University of Michigan. Raymond was employed at General Motors Corporation Buick Plant #36 as a Machine Operator for 38 years. Raymond was a “jack of all trades” and had many interests including writing, playing the saxophone, martial arts, painting and restoring vintage cars. He loved to cook, and his fried fish and barbeque were the favorites of both his family and friends. Raymond had a big heart, and he never met a stranger. He loved to converse with people, sharing his thoughts and opinions whether you agreed or disagreed with him. Raymond was a former member of Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), where he drove veterans to their appointments and the John W. Stevens Lodge #56. Raymond will be missed and remembered by everyone whose life he touched.Raymond Junior Reaves leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Roxie Reaves of Flint; 6 daughters, Yolonda Simmons of Reynoldsburg, OH, Tuwana Reaves of Plano, TX, Melissa Reaves of Frisco, TX, Stephanie Reaves of Farmers Branch, TX, Angela Reaves and Theresa Reaves, both of Plano, TX; step-son, Earl Gladney of Flint; 5 grandchildren, Alona Simmons of Reynoldsburg, OH, Earicia Murphy of Flint, Xavian Kamara of Plano, TX, Saniyah Gladney of Flint and Alyssa Reaves of Farmers Branch, TX; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Raymond Harris and Alvin (Doretha) Phillips, both of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousin, Jonathan Mays; aunt, Deidra Jacobs of Romulus, MI; sister-in-law, Belinda Mays; 2 brothers-in-law, Jonathon (Mezon) Green and Clyde Lee; special nephew, Glenn Powell; former wife and mother of his children, Eva Hudson; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Jim Rouse, Flint Northwestern High School Class of 1969. Raymond was preceded in death by his mother, Loraine Mays; father, Jessie Mays; brother, Andrew Mays; mother-in-law, Shirley Green; and sister-in-law, Darenda Lee.
