Raymond Powell

POWELL, Mr. Raymond - Age 66, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2007 at McLaren Hospice. Family hour 11AM Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:30AM. Dr. Roosevelt Austin officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mr. Powell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Friday. Mr. Raymond Powell was born March 9, 1941 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Willie Powell. Raymond was the 10th child of 13 children and was educated at Hartford County School. On June 22, 1968, Raymond was united in Holy Matrimony to Pearl Lee Amerson and to this union two children were born. Mr. Powell was a born again believer, confessing Jesus as Lord many years ago he than became a member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church family. For the past few years Raymond has also been a faithful and dedicated volunteer servant at the North End Soup Kitchen, which brought him so much joy. Even during the time of his illness Raymond stilled served when he could. In June 2001 Raymond retired from General Motors Division with over 33 1/2 years as a Tool Crib Manager. His hobbies included: fishing, baseball, basketball and spending time with his beautiful wife and family. Mr. Raymond Powell leaves to cherish his memory; faithful and devoted wife of 39 years, Pearl Powell; 2 sons, Broderick (Felicia) Powell of Minneapolis, MN, and Jermaine (Nida) Powell of Brooklyn Park, MN; 3 daughters, Tracy (Anthony) Crawford of Lynn, MA, Loretta Duncan-Fowler of Sacramento, CA, and Belinda King of Murfreesboro, NC; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 4 brothers; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Willie Powell; brothers, Lee, Gurney, James, David and Raleigh Powell. The family would like to express special thanks to Jaina Brooks and all the staff at Visiting Nurse Services of Davison, MI.
