FOSTER, Mr. Raymond - Age 70, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, August 18, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Dennis Powell, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Foster will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday, with family present from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Raymond “Chief” Foster was born November 28, 1952 in Talladega, Alabama, the son of Ozie and Mildred Foster. Later his parents moved to Bessemer, AL. Ray attended J.S. Abrams High School, graduating in 1970. While attending J.S. Abram he was part of the Blue Devils Marching Band playing the Trumpet. After graduating, Ray moved to Indiana to attend Ivy Technical College. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was Honorably Discharged. He returned to Indiana to earn a degree in Business Management. Later he moved to Dallas, TX where he attended Dallas University and earned a Bachelor Degree in Pre-Law and a Master’s Degree in English. Ray worked as an Advertising Consultant and then branched out to open his own Resume & Writing Company. Later he moved back to Flint, Michigan where he taught for several years in the Flint Public School System & Correctional Institutions. Then he moved back to Bessemer, AL to pursue his writing career in which he published his first novel, “Death, Dying & the Time Traveler.” Ray was a faithful member of Grace Tabernacle Ministries, where he sung in the Choir and played the Maraca’s and Tambourine. Mr. Raymond “Chief” Foster leaves to cherish his memory: son, Raymoine Foster of Atlanta, GA; grandson, Dylan R. Foster; granddaughter, Ryleigh P. Foster; 2 brothers, Paul and Ocie Foster of Flint; 3 sisters, Bernice Calvin, Mary and Paulette Foster, all of Flint; 4 nephews, Michael, Rasheen, Daruius Foster and Jamar Calvin, all of Flint; 2 nieces, Stacie Wilson of Flint and Essence Spear of Brooklyn, NY; step-brother, Willie Brown of Bessemer, AL; special friends, Alma Love and Tonya Collins; several great-nephews, great-nieces, numerous cousins and friends. Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his parents, Ozie and Mildred Foster; and sister, Ruth Wilson. The family would like to express special thanks to the Hurley Medical Center CCU staff, Pastor Dennis Powell and Grace Tabernacle Ministries, Supt. J.E. Walker Jr. and Faith Gospel Temple Holiness Church.
