Ray Snyder

SNYDER, Mr. Ray B. - Age 60, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mr. Snyder will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Ray B. Snyder was born August 16, 1949 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Albert and Celeste Snyder. Ray attended Flint Public Schools. He worked for General Motors before joining the U.S. Army where he served in the Vietnam War. After returning home from Vietnam, he resumed his employment with General Motors and continued to serve his country as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. Ray retired from General Motors and the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Shirley Ann Bass in 1973 and raised 6 children. Ray was a faithful member of First Union Baptist Church, where he joyfully served in the Security Ministry and the Male Choir. He enjoyed his trucks, music and hats. Ray loved his family and friends, he appreciated spending quality time with his grandchildren; especially watching them play while he barbequed. During their visits, he did everything for his “babies”. Ray was always willing to help others. Mr. Ray B. Snyder leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 37 years, Shirley Ann; six children, Andrea (Rodney) Norwood of Pickerington, OH, Darin Bass, Raymond Parlor, Torina Bass of Raleigh, NC, Tanea’ (Marc) Montgomery and Ray D. Snyder; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Oscar (Carolyn) Snyder and Albert Snyder, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; aunt, Ella Jefferson; niece, Lisa Snyder, both of Los Angeles, CA; nephew, Lonnie Snyder of Madison, WI; mother & father-in-law, Ernest and Bettie Bass of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters-in-law, Shirley Jean Bass, Alicia Sanders of Kansas City, MO, Diane and Shirley Ellis; brothers-in-law, Gilbert, Ronald and Christopher Ellis, all of Chicago, IL and Omar Bass of Fort Wayne, IN; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Celeste Snyder; grandson, Jarod Norwood; brother, Richard J. Snyder; aunts, Rosetta Burke, Theresa Douglas, Odessa Jones, Annie Jones, Josephine Leonard and Ruby Smith. The family appreciates the many kind expressions of love and concern extended to them during this time of bereavement. Our special thanks to the Rev.
