SIMMONS, Mr. Ray Oliver - Age 75, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Eld. Janice Walker, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Mr. Simmons will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Mr. Ray Oliver Simmons was born December 28, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Kay Simmons. Ray moved to Flint, Michigan at an early age. He graduated from Flint Northern High School. Ray began working at Cancellation Clothes & Shoes at the age of 16. He later attended Mott College while working at various clothing stores. Ray was the Premier Male Model with Tiger & Company, he was also Flint’s only male model for the magazine “Vines”. All this after marrying and doing 1 Tour in Vietnam. Ray loved to dance, fish, travel and be with his family. He was a member of Spiritual Israel Church and It’s Army. Mr. Ray Oliver Simmons leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mary A. Simmons of Mt. Morris, MI; 2 sons, Starlin (Kim) Simmons of Bear, DE and Gayland (Sharon) Simmons of Haslett, MI; 2 grandchildren, Tyree and Jaden Simmons, both of Bear, DE; sister, Cynthia Cooper of Richmond, VA; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Daytrella) Psalms of Minnesota and Bryan Psalms of Richmond, VA; 8 nieces, Karmela and Latrice Cooper, both of Richmond, VA, Roneisha Williams of Texas, Courtney and Christine Williams, both of California, Elizabeth Williams of Connecticut, Alisha Williams of Florida and Ashley and Adrian of Flint; 10 nephews, Jessie and Jordan Williams of Virginia, Kendale, Jaxon, Kaylen, Jaelyn, Stephan and Jackie Williams of Alabama, Phillip and Kayla Williams of Connecticut, Ron Williams Jr. and Erica Trish of Hawaii; 4 aunts, Ann Flood of Flint, Dorothy Verbal of Arizona, Rachael and Benny Gatewood of Flint, and Pat Beeman of San Francisco, CA; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Mazie Williams of Flint; sister-in-law, Dawn Williams of Flint; 3 brothers-in-law, Terry Williams of Virginia, Rick (Marlena) Williams of Florida and Don Williams of Connecticut; a host of other relatives and friends including good friends, Gene Leverette, Mike Carter and others. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his mother; father-in-law; grandparents; and 2 brothers-in-law. The family would like to express special thanks to staff of Landmark Health especially nurses, Jamee and Tish, and also caseworker, Baily Kalfs; good friends, Rashiadh Aquil and D.J. Gibbs; and the nurses of Hurley Medical Center 7th & 9th Floors.
