Mr. Raphus Eugene Lewis

LEWIS, Mr. Raphus Eugene - Age 72, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 6415 N. Clio Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Wallace Hill III, officiating. Interment Sunset HIlls Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Lewis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. Monday. Mr. Raphus Eugene Lewis, “Ray” was born September 3, 1941 in Plantersville, AR, the son of the late Thaddeus A. and Verna B. Lewis. He was the 8th of 12 children. “Ray” was educated in the Drew County Public School Systems; he also attended Mott Community College. Raphus accepted Christ at an early age at Strangerest A.M.E. Church in Arkansas. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher, Trustee, Member of the Men’s Chorus and in many other capacities. “Ray” retired from SPO in Swartz Creek, a division of General Motors after 38 years of service. He had a way about him, which would make people laugh, talk and debate. “Ray” was very skilled in fixing and building things. Lewis of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 daughters, Kimberly (Brian) Hairston and Teresa (David) Baker, all of Southfield, MI and Tia Lewis (Aaron Brown) of Grand Blanc, MI; grandchildren, Lydia and Aniya Baker, both of Southfield, MI and Aaron of Flint; sister, Marva (Otis) McDaniel of Flint; 2 brothers, Ira Lee (Agnes) Lewis of Mt. Morris, MI and Welton (Carol) Lewis of Flint; mother and father-in-law, Lavon (Fern) Davis of Oxnard, CA; stepfather-in-law, Frank (Lynn) Jackson of Flint, MI; 6 sisters-in-law, Sue Henry of Flint; Ruthie Mae Vincent of Wilmar, AR, Alice Marie Lewis of Mt. Morris, MI, Stephanie Webb of Oxnard, CA and Shani (Terell) Smith of Flint and Tanga Hill; brothers-in-law, Craig Davis of Oxnard, CA and Patrick Davis of CA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Sheila Green, Colleen Lyons, Liz Clausell, the McWilliams, Brooks, Collins, Bassett Hartfields and Young families, Dawn Donuts and his crew, Margie Jones, Henry and Doris Thomas, Jessie Rubin, Oma Evans and Betty Hill. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Vivian Lewis; 5 brothers, GW, QT, Bobby, Ulyess, Lamar; 3 sisters, Margaret (Mickey), LeDora and Lettie.
