MURPHY, Councilman Quincy - Age 50, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Councilman Murphy will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Friday, October 11, 2024 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Mr. Quincy Murphy began his life’s journey in this world on March 10, 1974 in Flint, Michigan. The son of Deborah Murphy and Olander Summers. Quincy attended Flint Northwestern High School and furthered his education at Baker College. Quincy was a dedicated community advocate, who made significant contributions to the City of Flint through his various roles. As an elected member of the Flint Charter Review Commission, he worked tirelessly to promote transparency and accountability in local governance. He also served on the Genesee County Land Bank Board, where he focused on revitalizing the community and addressing housing challenges. Currently he holds the position of Third Ward City Council Official, representing the interests of his constituents and advocating for positive changes. In addition to his public service, he was a valued employee at Lear, while remaining committed to the betterment of his community. Mr. Quincy Murphy leaves behind a legacy that resonates like a powerful drumbeat, inspiring generations with his unwavering dedication to uplifting his community and advocating for justice. He is survived by his mother, Deborah Murphy; grandmother, Rose Murphy, both of Flint; brother, Rafael Murphy; sisters, Tina Murphy, Maria Porche’, Tyrhonda Moore, all of Flint and Amber Summers of California; aunts, Jackie, Angela, Amarallys (Billy) Williams, Karen Murphy, Janice, Alesia Davis, all of Flint, Shirley Readus of Alabama, Mary Alice of Arkansas, L. Barbara, Patricia Roberts, and Alesia (Ron Peaks), all of Flint; uncles, Craig Smith of California, and Gene (Barb) Summers, Vergitta Summers, of Flint; nieces, Takoya, Paradise, Brittany, Keyocia, Jhanay, Keyona, Kyndal, Danielle, Adasia, Alyssia, Ashari, Mavena, and Teriah, all of Flint; nephews, Rafael Jr.; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and best friend, Lela McGee Harvey; special friends, Tracy Fountain, Tamica Garth, Cassandra Redmon and Ben Paul of Ashley Capitol; god-parents, Estelle and Delbert; god-siblings, Jocelyn, Jacinda and Jeff; god-daughter, JaQueshia Allen; favorite cousins, Nita and Pinky Murphy, and JaPaula Kemp.
