Ms. Queen Sykes

SYKES, Ms. Queen - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor T.J. Lee officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, G-2020 E. Hill Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Ms. Sykes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Ms. Queen Esther Sykes was born November 8, 1944 in Crawford MS the daughter of Addie Mae and J.B. Odneal. Queen accepted Christ at an early age at Charity Missionary Baptist Church in Crawford, MS. She attended Crawford Elementary School and graduated from Moore High School in Starkville, MS. Queen came to Flint in 1978 with her 3 children and became a member of the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed the company of friends, family, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Ms. Queen Esther Sykes leaves to cherish her sweet memory: daughter, Marcy (Michael) Nichols of Flint; 2 sons, Bobby (Regina) Sykes of Indianapolis, IN and Gregory Sykes of Flint; precious grandchildren, Aiesha (Richard) Mack, Ashle’ and Breawna Sykes, all of Indianapolis, IN and Bobby “Big Man” Blake of Flint; great-granddaughter, Aaniah Mack of Indianapolis, IN; 2 sisters, Barbara Brooks and Mary (Mose) Tucker; 6 brothers, J.B. (Johnnie) Odneal, Edward Peat, Nelson (Barbara) Peat, all of Flint, MI, Austin Peat, Roy Stewart, Willie (Helen) Odneal, all of Columbus, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends. Ms. Sykes was preceded in death by her parents, Addie Mae Peat and J.B. Odneal; brother and sister-in-law, Halbert (Betty) Peat, John Robert Odneal; sisters, Essie Lee Peat and Jeraldine (Sam) Lyde; a cousin, Bertha Williams. The family would like to express special thanks to Clifford AFC, Dr. Mousa Mohammed, Lisa Lindsey, Pastor T.J. Lee and the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church Family.
