Portia Nolen

NOLEN, Mrs. Portia A. - Age 57, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at First Union Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Nolen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Portia Ann (Jones) Nolen was born August 7, 1954 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of Maerie Katherine Rochell and Robert Jones, Sr. Portia moved to Flint, Michigan at age 5 with her parents, where she attended Flint Public Schools, attending Northern High School and graduating from Flint Central High School. She graduated from Ross Medical School as a Nurse Assistant and went on to work at Grand Blanc Convalescent Home and George’s Big C’s. Portia attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and later became a member of First Union Baptist Church, where she loved to serve the Lord. Portia enjoyed cooking, bingo, playing cards, spending time with her family, doing puzzles and watching westerns. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Toyanna Jones and Sheneen Jones; 2 sons, Maurice Jones and Charles Jones, all of Flint; 4 step-children, Kim Richardson, Shaela Davis, Arlinda Tibbs and Ginger Ward; 17 grandchildren, Maurice Jones, Jr. and Ali Jones, both of West Branch, MI, Rashamere Holmes, Sha’tari Reed, Sequnia Jones, Anthony Jones, Torrie Anderson, Timothy Anderson, Kavion, Chytazia, Marcell, Jackie, Zareyia, Hew, Bianca, Brei’shawna and Breiyah; 2 great-grandchildren, Timothy Anderson and Ja’Qualine Anderson; 5 nieces, Quansheila Jones, Camille Smith, Uteasha Taylor, CheQuitha Savage; special niece, Tomika (Will) Tedford, all of Flint; 5 nephews, VonRoyce Smith, David Adams, Spencer Smith, Sparky Ivory and Emanuelle Adams; aunt, Molly Fields of Dumas, AR; uncle, Johnny Weathers of Los Angeles, CA; special cousins, Rev. Archie Powell, Jr. and Alice Powell, Margaret Hicks and Gloria Brazill; a host of cousins, other relative and friends including special friends, Alice Smith, Barbara Rushing, Dorothy Franklin, Dianne Royster, Phyllis Miller, Liz Campbell and Geneatha Campbell. Mrs. Nolen was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Nolen, Sr.; sister, Rita Jones; brothers, Robert Jones, Jr.; mother, Maerie K. (Rochell) Jones; father, Robert Jones, Sr.; grandmother, Flora Urquhart; special friend, Willie Mae Anderson.
