HOLBROOK, Mother Phyllis Ann - Age 65, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2022, at House of Prayer Full Gospel C.O.G.I.C., 1116 E. Humphrey St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor James Bowie, officiating. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Mother Holbrook will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Obituary Mother Phyllis Ann Holbrook was born on April 10, 1957 in Flint, Michigan. She was the fourth of thirteen children born to the late Dr. James M Gill Jr. and Ruby Juanita (Norton) Gill. She was a resident of Burton, MI. Mother Holbrook graduated from Beecher High School in 1975. She later attended Mott Community College earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting. In 1980, she joined the Accounts Receivable Department at Mott Community College and later transferred to the payroll department. Because of her exemplary work ethics she received numerous awards including the Chester D. Smith Outstanding Staff Member Award in 1984 and 1999. She would remain dedicated for over 35 years until her retirement. On May 30, 1981, Mother Holbrook married Michael Gordon Holbrook, to this union four children were born; Michelle, Jonathan , Joshua and Justin Holbrook. They were married for 39 years until his transition in July of 2020. She accepted Christ at an early age and was active in the church. She was an active founding charter member of House of Prayer Full Gospel Church of God in Christ. She served under the leadership of her father, the late Dr. James M. Gill Jr, establishmentarian. She then served under current Pastor Superintendent James O. Bowie II. Mother Holbrook worked faithfully in various auxiliaries, including that of Church Mother, treasurer and recording secretary. Mother Holbrook enjoyed baking, traveling, shopping, listening to gospel music, and spending time with her family. She was a kind, loving, generous, and quiet person. She was known for her baking skills, especially her macaroni and cheese, her 7up Cake, and her gourmet cookies at Christmas time, her favorite holiday. Mother Holbrook loved fellowshipping with the saints. She always looked forward to attending Mt Zion District Meetings, the Annual National AIM and The National Women's Conventions of the COGIC. Mother Phyllis Ann Holbrook leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Michelle Holbrook; three sons, Jonathan (Tammy), Joshua (Jasmin), and Justin (Nitiyaja) Holbrook; eleven grandchildren, Mikaiah, Mikayla, Malachi, Moriah, and Kaileigh Holbrook, Jazmin(Dion) Reed, Jordan Tuttle, Daniel Cole, Joshua, Dana, and Aanyajah Holbrook; four great-grandchildren Kye’Lynn, Aiyana, Kamyla, and Dion Reed; eight sisters, Valerie Leslie, Janice Murphy, Alta (Zack) Smith Jr. all of Flint MI, Lorraine Murphy and Ruby Gill of Grand Blanc, MI, Elizabeth (Willie) Hill of Faulkner, MS, Linda (Daren) Parrish of Memphis, TN and Felicia (James) Jones of Summerville, GA; three brothers, James (Shawn) Gill, Mark (Susan)Gill of Flint, MI, and Timothy (Delois) Gill of Grand Blanc, MI; one brother in law, Ronald Holbrook of Redondo Beach, CA; two sisters-in-law, Delores and Fonda Holbrook; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mother Holbrook was preceded in death by her husband Michael G. Holbrook; parents James and Ruby Gill Jr.; brother Anthony D. Gill; in- laws James and Rosie Holbrook; one sister-in-law Dorthy Dunlap and 4 brother in-laws; Tommie Leslie Jr., James Holbrook Jr., Donald Holbrook and Tony Murphy.
