Dobson, Mrs. Phyllis - Age 87, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Landings of Genesee Valley. Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc., Omega Omega Service 9:30 AM, Friday, March 1, 2019 with Family hour and public viewing commencing at 10:00 AM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Jevon Q. Catlett, Host Pastor, Rev. Phyllis McCree, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd, Holly, MI. Mrs. Dobson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Public viewing will be held only during the family hour. Mrs. Phyllis Lenore (Phoenix) Dobson was born August 22, 1931 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Wilmer and Mattie (Sullivan) Phoenix. She was resident of Flint, Michigan and a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Phyllis attended Cheyney State University where she received a BS in Education and Eastern Michigan University where she received her MS in Special Education. She was employed by the Flint Community Schools retiring in 1995. Some of her personal interests included traveling, cooking, sewing, reading African American biographies, and self improvement books. Phyllis followed her mother, a beautician, and grandfather and father both barbers. She also worked part time as a licensed hair stylist and instructor. Phyllis was a member of the Flint Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. Mrs. Phyllis Lenore (Phoenix) Dobson leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 64 years, Warren Theodore Dobson of Flint; 3 children, Warren Theodore “Teddy” Dobson II of Chicago, IL, LeNoir P. Dobson of Flint and Yvonne Dobson Porter (Charles David) of Ashburn, VA; 4 grandchildren, Crystal Dobson, Donyel Felton, Lauren Porter and Jillian Porter; great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Dobson; 2 out of 5 siblings, Martha “Bunny” (Henry) Carlton and family, Linda Phoenix and sons; brother-in-law, Berlin (Constance) Dobson and family; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to Karen (Wendall) Johnson, and Nina Lewis, for their love, support, friendship and prayers. The sisterhood of Flint Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated, Dr. E. Saeed and the staff of Landings of Genesee Valley.
