Mr. Peter Harris Jr.

HARRIS, Mr. Peter Jr. - Age 78, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor Anthony Ramsey officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Harris will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mr. Peter Harris Jr. was born on August 15, 1938 in Schlater, Mississippi, the only child of Elder Peter and Sarah Harris. He graduated from Money Vocational High School in Money, Mississippi. Peter went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University in 1962. In 1971, he received his Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. Peter was an educator by trade. He begin his career in Greenwood, Mississippi, teaching 7 years in the Leflore County Schools before moving his family to Flint, Michigan in 1973 and teaching in the Flint Community Schools for 25 years. When not in the classroom, Peter could be found in a boat, or on a bank, with a fishing pole in his hand. Not only good at catching fish, he could also cook the catch with the best of them. From fish, to chicken, to fried corn, greens and cornbread, Peter knew his way around a stove! Peter loved his family, and his family loved him. Beginning with a great relationship with his parents, and the many family members that he grew up around and stayed close with all of his life, he was the always the life of family get-togethers. He was the one in the family that knew how everybody was related through the generations, our family historian. A cousin of his recently remarked, “I’ve never seen Peter Junior down or in a bad mood. He was always happy.” Peter accepted Christ at an early age and has now gone on to glory. Mr. Peter Harris Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Dr. Shelah Peery (Raymond) of Flint; son, Cory Harris (Erica) of Chicago, IL; grandsons, Eric Feaster, Jason Feaster, Cory Harris II, and William Harris; granddaughter; Leah Harris; a host of loving relatives and friends, including his “Flint Family” The Rogers/Townsend/Mack families. Also, special friends, Mr. Jim Sims and Mr. Larry Simpson. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Ann Harris and Cassandra Harris; and parents, Elder Peter and Sarah Harris.
