Mr. Pete Morgan

MORGAN, Mr. Pete - Age 83, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at Heartland Health Care Center-Fostrian. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Promise Tabernacle, 815 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Frederick Flowers Sr., officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Morgan will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday with the family present from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Pete Morgan was born April 20, 1935 in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Rufus Morgan and Mattie Johnson. He attended school in Greenwood and moved to Flint, Michigan at the age of 19. Pete was baptized at an early age by the late Pastor Granville Smith at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He later became a member of Golden Leaf Baptist Church in the 1960’s under the leadership of the late Pastor Earl Thigpen. Pete sang in the Senior Choir under the direction of the late Mrs. Mazel Thurman. While attending Golden Leaf, Pete met a young lady by the name of Betty Fields. After some time, he took her on a date and asked her, “Do you wanna be my girl?” To which she replied, “Yes, I sure do!” From that day they were together. Pete and Betty were joined in Holy Matrimony on March 26, 1977 by the late Pastor Archie L. Hawkins, Sr. This brought together two families with five children and later a sixth child, LaMario Morgan, was added to the family. Pete retired from Buick, a division of General Motors in 2001 after 37 years of service. His hobbies included going to the baseball games at Berston Field House, taking his grandchildren to feed the ducks at Stepping Stone Falls, and walking them to the store coming back with bags and bags of candy. Pete loved traveling with his family to Memphis and traveling “Up the Way”. He also loved making people laugh and telling his fantastic stories. He was quite the jokester. On Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 83, Pete Morgan entered into sweet rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mr. Pete Morgan leaves in God’s care and to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Betty Morgan; 3 daughters, Wanda (David) Childs, Lorraine (LB) McCune, all of Flint and Annette “LuLu” Rodgers of Indianapolis, IN; son, Terence (Gloria) Fields of Lansing, MI; grandchildren, Ashley, Joi, Elynia, Aneesha, Teriana, Sherrell, Quandra, Quinnell, Shawn, Steven, Roy “Two”, Brandon, Rumeal, Josh, Jacob, Tracey, and Christopher; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Johnson, Dora Chatman, Rosie Carter; brother, Chandler Johnson, Jr.; uncle, Leon (Mary) Duncan; mother-in-law, Dora Hayden; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Martin, Maloma Johnson, Elizabeth Jackson and Melonie (Deacon John) Perkins; special daughters, Gwen Harvey, Deb Bothwell, Sheila Lomax; special sons, DaunDruell Waters, Steve Williams, Rafeal McDaniel; special niece, Cymphony Jones; special nephew, Dedric Jackson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends including, Pastor Emeritus, Bishop James O. Sr. & Mrs. Linda Flowers, the Talley, Holmes, Parker, Gilmore, Lomax, Harvey, Bothwell, McLilly, Bingham, Fields, Jones, Brown, Caldwell, Tidwell and Baldwin Boulevard families. Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Ann; son, LaMario; parents, Rufus Morgan and Mattie Johnson; 1 sister, and 2 brothers. Special thank you to Pastor Frederick L.
