Mr. Percy Magee

MAGEE, Mr. Percy - Age 93, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at Maple Place Assisted Living . Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, March 22, 2025 from the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Elder Malik A. Shabazz, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Percy will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Elder Percy Magee was born October 2, 1931 in Tylertown, Mississippi, the son of Sidney and Wilkie Magee. As a young adult, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s and fought in the Korean Conflict, for which he earned The Korean Service Medal, The Rifle Marksman Medal and The Bronze Star Medal for his heroic service in a combat zone. After serving in the U.S. Army, Elder Magee relocated to Flint, Michigan after learning about job opportunities at General Motors (GM). He secured a position with GM Chevrolet and later retired from Buick City after 37 years of service. He was a lifelong resident of Flint, a member of the United Automobile Workers Union (Local 599), and a co-founder and faithful member of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Elder Deacon and Chairman of the Trustee Board, Emeritus. He was a faithful servant of God, providing spiritual guidance to his family, church family, friends, and sometimes strangers. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family, including traveling to Tylertown for family reunions. Elder Magee was known for being a dapper dresser, his peaceful presence, and his wisdom, often reciting his famous sayings to provide lessons about life. Elder Magee was the ultimate family man. He was a dedicated husband to Cleora for 33 years, whom he affectionately called Clee or Dear. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife, Cleora Magee; 2 loving daughters, Renee Magee and Barbara (Ray) Taulton; 4 stepdaughters, Renea Yarbrough, Stephanie Yarbrough-Quinn, Denise Yarbrough and Nicole Yarbrough; 1 stepson, Lester Hawkins; 12 grandchildren, Percy Lavel (Monica) Magee, Etoyia Magee, Shandell (Shon) Massey, JaQuan Page, Janelle Page, Chantel Page, Chayla Page, Blake Hendricks, Daniel Lay, Cherell Mason, Jashawn Collins, and Jaylen Collins; a host of great-grandchildren, including DeVonte, Jaylen, Toni, Diamond, Evan, Mya, JaQuan Jr., Lionel, Quanyra, Quantay, Miyell, Montrell, Malisia, Jayce, London, Zubayr, Nasir, and Jashawn; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Dream and Juan Jr.; 1 brother, Sidney (Rosetta) Magee, Jr.; 3 sisters-in-law, Patricia Magee, Lybell Magee and Diana Davison-Magee; and plenty of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was known as a fatherly figure and unofficial grandfather to many. Elder Magee was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Wilkie Magee; daughter, Cynthia Magee; stepson, Howard Hawkins; sisters, Augustine, Elvalene and Clara Mae; and brothers, Mitchell, Louis, Talmadge Curtis (T.C.), James, Arcell, John Earl, Clarence, Charles, Ronald, Robert, and Wilton Magee. The family would like to express a special thanks to Elder Malik A. Shabazz and First Lady Joanne Shabazz of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church; Pastor Rodney Williams and Lady Angela Williams of Second Friendship Baptist Church; Dr. Oscar L. Wright; Dr. Ahmed Qadir; Dr. Syed Sattar; Dr. Carder Burns; the staff of Maple Place Assisted Living; Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home; James H. Cole Home for Funerals; and all those that have provided love, prayers, support, and words of encouragement.
