Mrs. Pearl Mae Young

YOUNG, Mrs. Pearl Mae - Age 98, passed away Friday, December 2, 2022, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2022, at New Zion Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Jacob Hawkins Jr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Pearl Mae Young was born on February 14, 1924 in Luxora, Arkansas, the daughter of James Curtis and Helen Amos. She and her husband followed family to Flint, Michigan in 1944. She soon joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Young was a proud member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 7 decades. As a member of New Zion, she sang in the church choir, was President of the Nurses Guild, and served on the Mothers’ Board. Mrs. Pearl Mae Young was a devout Christian woman who stood firm and resolute in her Christian beliefs. She remained a faithful member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church until she transitioned to her heavenly home. Pearl retired from General Motors - AC Spark Plug after 25 years of loyal service. She passed away Friday, December 2, 2022, at the age of 98. Mrs. Young loved her family, entertaining friends, and traveling within the United States and abroad. Mrs. Pearl Mae Young leaves to cherish her memory: two sons and three daughters, Henry Young, Sr. of Flint, Mae Helen (Randolph) Smith of Aurora, IL, JoAnn (Robert) Marzette, Barbara (Clifford) Cannon-Burks, all of Flint and Roy (Mary) Young of Port Saint Lucia, FL; grandchildren, Henry Young Jr., Sabrina Armstrong, Lonnie Young, Sheila Coston, Roderic Smith, Masharri Riddle, Dennis, Stephanie and Tiffany Cannon, Danine Lindley, Corey Hodges, Tavis Young, Chiketa Young, Eboni Young, and Brooklyn Coleman; 27 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including a daughter by choice Patricia Torrey. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents, James Curtis and Helen Amos; her husband George Young and her son George Willie Young; her sisters Mrs. Margaret Hamilton and Mrs. Lizzie Mae Baker; and her great-grandson Caleb M. Rogers; and cousin Andrew Harris.
