NELSON, Ms. Patricia - Age 89, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in Georgia. Family hour 11:00 AM Monday, January 6, 2020 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Samuel Berry III, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Monday. Ms. Nelson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday. Ms. Patricia Marie Nelson, affectionately known as “Pat” was born on January 25, 1930 in Helena, Arkansas, as Patricia Maire Johnson the only daughter of Beatrice McClendon & Lawson Johnson. Patricia moved to Chicago, Illinois at the tender age of two with her Grandmother, Addie Carrie Shadd. After finding her Father in Michigan, during her Junior year at DuSable High School in Chicago, IL, she moved to Flint, Michigan with her father and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1948. Patricia worked at A.C. Spark Plug, a division of General Motors Corporation for over 30 years as a dedicated employee until she retired. In her spare time outside of work she loved to cook, crochet and was very involved in her neighborhood; she loved her neighbors. Patricia was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for many years where she sung with the Voices of Macedonia, and was the Choir Secretary for over 30 years and a part of the Calling-Committee, the Mass Choir, and assisted in the Kitchen faithfully preparing and serving members and guest. she will be truly missed by all. Ms. Patricia Marie Nelson leaves to cherish her memories: 2 sons, Rodney (Karen) Nelson and Ricky Nelson & (Teri Nelson, mother of his children); 10 grandchildren, Chandra (Derrick) Clements, Donnetta Wells, Alana Nelson, Rodney Nelson Jr., Patrick Nelson, Rakeem Nelson, Aric Nelson, Rajuan Nelson, Ramone Nelson and Jamal Reid; 6 great-grandchildren, Nylah Clements, Derrick Clements Jr., Camara Clements, Derrika Clements, Stewart Wells-Square and Sterling Wells-Square; cousins, Ollie (Nelson) McLemore and James E. Hodges; god-daughters, Martha Langston, Jane Green and Margaret Robinson; and a host of loving and dedicated nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mrs. Betty Massey, Mrs. Pearl Young, Ms. Doris Holly and Mr. Kent Smith. Ms. Nelson was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Smith-Vickers; parents, Beatrice McClendon & Lawson Johnson; grandmother, Addie Carrie Shadd; cousins, John Hodges, Willie Stokes & Curtis Stokes.
