Mrs. Pamela Yvone Loving-Copeland

LOVING-COPELAND, Mrs. Pamela - Age 78, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Medilodge- Montrose. MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, December 18, 2021 from Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., Burton, MI., with a Memorial Service commencing at 11:00 AM. Friends and family will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday. Memorial Visitation will be held at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, with family present to receive friends from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. On the afternoon of December 11, 2021, Pamela Loving-Copeland went to be with the Lord. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 28, 1943, to Dr. Alvin D. Loving, Sr. & Mary Helen Loving. Ms. Loving-Copeland can lay claim to an impressive list of awards and accolades, earned with years of diligence, hard work, and service to people. In addition to these triumphs, she carries memories of darker days living as a single Mom in poverty with an abusive husband. These events are essential pieces of the person she came to be with the many people she grew to love and serve. She was a registered nurse, holds a B.A. Degree in Education and Sociology and has attended Harvard University, Central Michigan University, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin, Michigan State University and Mott Community College. It is not surprising to hear Mrs. Loving-Copeland call herself a “proponent of lifelong learning.” As the President and CEO of Career Alliance, Inc., a multi-service organization, she provided workforce development assisting people from all walks of life in a variety of capacities, serving Genesee and Shiawassee Counties for over 10 years. The Sylvester Broome, Jr. center housed the Amistad Academy and was a unique program designed to serve youth after school in a non-traditional format. Involvement with Incentives for Success and Motivating the Teen Spirit were a central part of her belief in emotional healthiness for young people. She also felt personal development should start early for youth and be introduced to adults. Pamela incorporated Landmark Education into her organization, a personal and professional growth, training and development company focusing on people achieving success, fulfillment and greatness! Her philosophy was focused on serving individuals from the “beginning of their lives to the end of their lives-no matter what kind of community they came from.” Her mantra of “Learning is what most adults will do for a living in the 21st century” has proven to be true. Pamela served on the Flint Board of Education for 10 years, along with many other boards including the Hurley Hospital Board. Moreover, she was employed for 23 years with General Motors Institute (GMI), now Kettering University, where she held a variety of positions ending as Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity. She hosted two local public access television shows, “Career Alliance Today” a community-based program that received two Cammy Awards. Her other program “Count it all Joy” was faith focused and show cased her Christian belief. Her spiritual walk was demonstrated in her decades of involvement with DeColores and Incarcerated Youth Ministries, Bible Study Fellowship and prison ministry at Huron Valley for Women and Milan for Men for seven years. Membership in various churches and Christian service with her latest in chair praise dancing was near and dear to her heart. She has received many awards on a local and national level such as the Distinguished Alumni Award from Mott Community College and the Stone of Help Award from Ebenezer Ministries. In 2000, she spearheaded the visit of President William (Bill) Jefferson Clinton to Flint, Michigan. Another subject close to Mrs. Loving-Copeland’s heart was her acceptance of Jesus as her Lord in 1979. She would often say “I am a spiritual being having a human experience.” She loved to travel locally, nationally, and abroad traveling the world two and a half times. She and her husband enjoyed taking cruises. She loved her family and extended family and most especially her grandchildren. Pam was known as a leader, visionary, spiritual mentor and friend. She will be missed. Pamela was preceded in death by her loving husband and sweetheart, William Copeland of 37 years; parents, Dr. Alvin D. and Mary Helen Loving, Sr.; brother, Alvin D. Loving, Jr. Pamela leaves to cherish her memory: brother, Paul Loving of Denton, TX; sister-in-law, Mara Loving of New York, NY; sons, Gregory (Rene) McKay and Pierre (Edythe Belew) Copeland, all of Lansing; daughters, Dr. Michelle Loving McKay of Los Angeles, CA and Carolyn (Walter) Stewart of Flint; grandchildren, Gregory McKay, Jr., Austin (fiancé, Alyssa Stepter) McKay of Lansing, MI, Lauren Gurley of Los Angeles, CA, Taylor McKay of Lansing, MI and Marcus Gurley of Los Angeles, CA; god-son, Mitchell (Melanie) Harris of Alexandria, VA; several great-grandchildren; nephew, Alvin DeMar (Sandra) Loving III of Berkley, CA; niece; Mary Helen (Anton) Jones of Denton, TX; special friends, Lisa Nichols, Camryn Banks, E. Yvonne Lewis, Janice Harden, Alfreda Harris and Candice Mushatt; and a host of relatives and friends including cousins, extended family and friends. The family wishes to thank Medilodge of Montrose, MI, McLaren Hospice Staff, McLaren Medical Staff, Tara Sheely, Bishop Urundi B. Knox, Pastor E. Yvonne Lewis and the Ebenezer Ministries Church Family.
