Mr. Oscar Gipson

GIPSON, Mr. Oscar - Age 75, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Friday, March 15, 2024, at Cathedral of Faith, 6031 Dupont St., with funeral services commencing at 11:00 AM. Bishop Chris Martin, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park,G-9506 N. Dort Hwy, Mt. Morris. Friends and family will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Friday. Mr. Gipson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Oscar Gipson was born on January 26, 1949 in Flint, MI, the son of Ethelean (Gipson) Cole and Oscar Nuness. He attended Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Central High School in 1967. He was employed and later retired from General Motors in January 2020 after 52 years of dedicated and loyal service. Mr. Gipson was a faithful disciple of Christ, studying and applying God’s word into the fiber of his being, much like a spiritual tapestry. He loved phoning family and friends to talk about the Lord, and to see how they were doing. Mr. Gipson was also devoted to the sick and shut-in ministry. You can always count on his kind, thoughtful and compassionate nature. Perhaps you received a handwritten note or a telephone message with bible verses to meditate on. Perhaps you were serenaded on your birthday, which he rarely forgot. Mr. Gipson enjoyed and loved dancing, watching football, basketball and boxing, and going to the movies. On Sunday mornings, he faithfully viewed Bishop Christopher Martin and Bishop Joseph Wiley ministries. Mr. Gipson was admired by all who knew and loved him. He was regarded as a charismatic and fun-loving soul with an infectious smile. He will also be remembered for his trademark phrase, “I love you to life!” Mr. Gipson was a devoted family man who showered his family with unconditional love. His legacy will live vividly through his children and grandchildren. Our precious Lord called Mr. Gipson home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, his mansion was ready. Mr. Oscar Gipson leaves to cherish his memory five daughters, Rhondala (Marcullus) Lewis of Jacksonville, FL, Marci Moore, Angel (Darnell) Jamison, all of Flint, MI, April (Alcus) Smith of Holt, MI; and Lisa Gipson of Flint, MI. He is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Diane Thompson, Nell Jean Duncan, Ruby Kidd, Marilyn Ellis and Glorious Anderson; and one brother-in-law, Charles (Sheila) Ogburn. Mr. Gipson also left his lasting legacy with his 23 grandchildren, Ray (Unique) Gipson, LaQuisha Lewis, Kanise Lewis, Tianna Lewis, Corneillus Lewis, Jocquece (Ciera) Gipson, Kalon (Kelley) Moore, Sameeka Gipson, Malik Moore, Jaylen Moore, Isaiah Moore, Autumn Moore, Kylee Jamison, Kamia Jamison, Amia Jamison, Amani Jamison, Allante Smith, Amoz Smith, Alcus Smith, Jr., Amari Smith, D’Quindre Smith, London Wooten and Chloe Wooten; along with 15 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Gipson was preceded in death by his parents, Ethelean (Gipson) Cole and Oscar Nuness; brothers, Warren Thompson and Gerald Thompson; sister, Marilyn McCoy; former wife, Ora Lee Gipson; niece, Tammy (Gipson) McCoy; son-in-law, Marcus Moore; great-granddaughter, Kyla Bryant; sister-in-law, Marjorie Eubanks; and brothers-in-law, Herman Kidd, Cecil Anderson, and Bruce Ellis. The family would like to express special thanks to the Thompson and Lewis families, Quisha Lewis, Rhondala and Marcullus Lewis.
