BROWN, Mrs. Olivia M. - Age 89, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Heartland Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Dianne Beverly officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Ms. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Brown live webcasting may be viewed live at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013. Mrs. Olivia Marie Brown was born December 31, 1923 in Texarkana, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the Late Augusta Duckett-Scroggins and Reverend Elisha Walker. Ms. Browns accepted Christ at an early age and was an avid church goer, who attended all of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Churches of Flint, as she sang and played the piano in all of them. Olivia was a character member of Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church, attended St. Peter C.M.E. Church and was a current member of St. James C.M.E. Church, where she served as the musician, a choir member and on many other ministries, until her health failed. Olivia loved to travel extensively. She was a graduate of Flint Northern High School, "Class of 1942", and was a retiree of The Flint Board of Education, as well as a Beautician for many years. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 grandchildren, Vonroyce Johnson and Curtis "Kip" Johnson Jr.; 3 great -grandchildren, Chandrea Johnson, Shanaya Johnson and Curtis Johnson III; great-great-grandson, Chase Johnson; sister, Leila (Theoplis) Poindexter; brother, Ellis Duckett, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special cousins, Eva Stockman of Flint and Fulton Walker of Pine Bluff, AR. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Johnson-Pettiford; mother, Augusta Duckett-Scroggins; father, Reverend Elisha Walker; sister, Susie Skipper; brother-in-law, Samuel Skipper Sr.; sister-in-law, Bernadine Duckett; nephews, Ellis Duckett, Jr., Samuel Skipper, Jr. and Perkins Spears; and great-niece, Kesonna Taylor. The family would like to express special thanks to: Rev. Dr. Phillip Washington and The St. James C.M.E. Church family, Rev. Reynard Monmouth and The Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church family, Eld.
