TERRY, Mrs. Odell Jane (Bennett) - Age 77, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 11AM Monday, October 26, 2009 at Dozier Memorial CME Church, 3212 S. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Pastor Charles Braddock officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Monday. Mrs. Terry will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mrs. Odell Terry was born March 17, 1932, delivered by her grandmother, Celia Tobias Hampton Brown in Dundee, Mississippi, was the first born child to Rev. James William and Irene Hampton Bennett. Odell attended Mississippi Industrial College, Holly Springs, MS. She was married to Earl Terry, Sr. and to this union four children were born. Living in Chicago, IL for thirty years, she retired from Roseland Hospital as a Physical Therapist. Mrs. Terry also volunteered in the Chicago Public Schools. Upon relocating to Flint, she volunteered for the Foster Grandparent Program at Daily Elementary for 13 years, inspiring children to excel for academic excellence, emphasizing manners and positive behavior. Mrs. Terry was a member of Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church and a member of the Voices of Dozier. She leaves cherished memories to: her daughters Diane McKinney, Donna Terry, both of Flint, Dina Terry of Columbus, OH; son, Earl Terry, Jr. of Chicago, IL; 7 grandchildren including special granddaughter, Erica Terry; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Bennett, Genoola Bennett Cooper, both of Flint; 2 brothers, James Bennett, Jr. of Flint, Al Bennett of Antioch, CA; special niece, Andrea Whitehead; 3 sisters-in-law, Nancy Anthony, Edna Terry, both of Chicago, Il, Mary Bennett of Antioch, CA; brothers-in-law, Reginald Jones of Chicago, IL, Lamont Cooper of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, her friends at Roseland Community Ministry Center, Marsha Watson, Ernest Hodges, and her friends at Gardenview Apartments. Mrs. Odell Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Terry, Sr.; brother, Marvin Bennett; parents, Rev. James and Irene Bennett. The family would like to express special thanks to Nurses and Staff at Hurley Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, the Bennett’s and Terry’s and Mr. Ernest Hodges.
