Mr. O.D. Standoak

STANDOAK, Mr. O.D. - Age 89, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at his residence. He will be sadly missed by many. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Pastor Dianne Beverly, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Standoak will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewd from 2-6 p.m. Friday with family present. Mr. O.D. Standoak was born Apri 8, 1924 in Marshall, Texas, the son of Arthur and Katie (King) Standoak. In 1943, he entered into Holy Matrimony with Ruth Mae Kelly. Ten years later O.D. migrated to Michigan with his family to start work for General Motors. He retired in 1989 after 33 years of services. During O.D.’s walk in life, he was a devoted member of St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. It was there that he served on the Male Chorus, the Deacons and Trustees Board and the Finance Committee. O.D. enjoyed hearing and reading the Word of God. He spent each morning reading his Bible quietly, and singing praises to God. To those who were close to O.D. he was known as “Red Man”, but to his older grandchildren, he was affectionately called “Daddy Red.” O.D. will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and faithful friend. He leaves to cherish his sweet memories: daughters, Agnes and Ellen Standoak and Mamie Edwards; 10 grandchildren, Tanjaneka, Thomas, Trenton, Deborah, Donald Wesley, Sandra Renee, Teria, Benita, Pamela, and Dameun; 21 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bessie Lee Bendle of Kirbyville, TX; 2 nephews, Alfred and Albert Standoak, both of Fort Worth, TX; cousin, Edna Pearl Champ of Dallas, TX; special “son”, Gregory Jessup; longtime friend, R.B. Traylor and the entire St. James CME Church family. Mr. Standoak was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Willie James Standoak; sister, Ester Lee Kindles; and great-granddaughters, Tenesia Augustus and Jazmine Booker. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Jiterandra Katneni and staff for many years of faithful care. The emergency room staff, the CDU unit and the Neuro-visual Unit at Hurley Medical Center; the staffs of Willowbrook Manor and and Gentiva Hospice.
