O.C. Tookes

TOOKES, Mr. O.C. - Age 80, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Genesys Hospice in Goodrich, MI. Memorial Service 11 a.m.-12Noon Friday, October 28, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 11 a.m. Friday. Mr. O.C. Tookes was born January 8, 1935 in Oglethorpe, Georgia, the son of Joe E. Tookes and Lena Relerford. O.C. resided in Flint, Michigan, where he attended grade school as well as high school and some college, majoring in Computer Science. He served in the United States Navy for 2 ½ years and worked for General Motors prior to many entrepreneur endeavors until his retirement. O.C. was very social and was active in the community. He felt very strongly about politics and supported the Democratic National Committee. However, his most passionate support was to the Oman Temple, where he was a member for 30 years. O.C. was a coin collector and read over 400 books in his life time; reading was only equal by his passion for computer research. Mr. O.C. Tookes leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, Vaughn (Michelle) Baker of Castro Valley, CA and Andre (Candance) Tookes of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Vaughn Baker, Jr., R’Angle Baker, Andre Jr., Pebin, Preston Tookes, Charles, Lyda Tookes; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Lydia (James) Wilson; 2 nieces, Kathy Bolton of Georgia and Mona Evans of Tennessee; 3 nephews, Alonzo (Sandy) of Washington; Dwight (Renee) of Las Vegas and Timothy (Marjorie) Rembea of Georgia; a host of cousins; brother-in-law, James Wilson; a host of other relatives and friends including special nieces, Trameka Davis and Zaire Green, goddaughter, Mrs. Cheryl Price, special friends, Mrs. Gladys Haney, Mr. Ozel and many more friends. Mr. Tookes was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Tookes; father, Joe E. Tookes; mother, Lena Relerford; aunts, Cora Anniemae, Perlie and Gertrude; uncles, Ozzie and Cliff; nieces, Lana Lynda and special friend Dr. Price. The family would like to express special thanks to Brian’s House, Briarwood Manor, Genesys Hospice, Willie Davis, James Green, Jhaiques Green, James Green, Jr., Demonte and Deonte Davis, Calencia Malone and Demetria Wilson.
