Mrs. Norma Jean Smith

SMITH, Mrs. Norma Jean - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Norma J. Smith went peacefully home to be with her heavenly Father Tuesday April 25, 2023. Norma was born July 29, 1954 and resided all of her life in Flint, Michigan. She was courted by and married to Douglas Smith. The union produced three children, LeKeta, Eujenia, and Robert. Norma was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of the Foss Avenue Baptist Church where she served faithfully and was Vice President of the FABC Floral Club, a member of the Nurses Ministry and when drafted by her Mother assisted with preparation of meals and décor for various church ministries. She enjoyed creating floral arrangements and gardening for the church. Norma’s favorite pastimes included reading, working crossword puzzles, watching mystery/TV game shows, and taking care of her family. Norma’s life Is cherished by: her two daughters, LeKeta of Dallas, TX and Eujenia (Sheron) of Flint; son, Robert of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Umeika Smith of Flint, Bryson Davis of Dallas, TX, Wilmeico Ragland Jr, Unique Ragland, and Sh’Rayia Ragland, all of Flint; great-grandchildren, Julianna Garland-Wright, JeMia Garland-Wright and Jo’Voni Smith, all of Flint; sister, Vildred Austin of Burlington, NC; long-time companion, Walter Jordan of Flint; nieces, Doris (John) Henderson of Houston, TX, Lisa Thompson of Chicago, IL, Ashunde Austin of Atlanta, GA, Precious Austin of Flint, Ebony (Joel) Manthei of Farmington Hills, MI, Michelle Benman of Southfield, MI; nephews, Richard (Sherri) Williams of Atlanta, GA, Eric Austin of Houston, TX, Dion Austin of Dallas, TX, Cymiahn Williams of Flint; cousins, Ronald (Colleen) Fails, Stephen Fails, Anita (Alfred) Banks, Ed Jr. (Syliva), Gregory Royster, Darshal Davis, and Rotreace Davis; several great-nieces and great-nephews, many friends and neighbors from Chatham Dr., Beecher, Juliah Street, and Home Avenue. Family members that transitioned before Norma are her parents, Charles and Agnes Austin; husband, Douglas Smith; sister, Patricia (Detrick) Cotton; brother, Jerome (Elaine) Austin; grandmother, Sallie Morgan; aunts, Bertha (William) Rice, Jeanette (Elton) Davis, and Mary Jackson; uncles, Grettis Royster and Richard Gude; cousins, Helene, Anthony (Tony), Rubie Mae, Ramona, Dennis, Frederick, Gloria Jean, Junior, Alfred, and Fred. Special Acknowledgments to daughters LeKeta, Eujenia, their children, Walter Jordan, and ProMedica for their unasked and continuous care, support and acts of love and kindness.
