GILES, Mrs. Nobie Lee - Age 87, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, October 26, 2007 at New Zion Baptist Church, with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Dr. W.G. Terry officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM. Mrs. Giles will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. "Well done, good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:23 Mrs. Nobie Lee Brown Giles, the oldest of fourteen children, was born July 12, 1920 in Blevins, Arkansas to the late Will and Laura Brown. She made her transition Friday, October 19, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center. She was educated in the school system of Blevins, Arkansas, earned her high school diploma later in life in Flint, MI and graduated from Agape Bible College in Birch Run, Michigan. As a young adult Nobie married Floyd Giles, Sr. and to this union eight children were born. They later moved to Flint, Michigan. Mrs. Giles' crowning achievements in life were being a fulltime spiritual wife and loving mother. Her spiritual influence is an ever-present beacon in the development and success of her children. Her devotion to family is also evident in her relationship with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and whomever she met. She was also very proud of being the "Matriarch" of the Brown and Giles Families. Mrs. Giles was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Arkansas until she moved to Flint and united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Later when the family moved the parents and four younger children united with New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was passionate about her church and was a member of the choir, Mission society and served as a Deaconess for many years. She was a gracious woman who loved the Lord and faithfully attended church until her health failed. Mrs. Giles enjoyed sewing, millenary, ceramics and crafts but, most of all she liked going to church service and the spa. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Giles, Sr.; grandson, Sherman Giles; five brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law, Charles Duncan. She leaves to cherish her memory five sons: Floyd (Jemima) Giles, James (Jacqueline) Giles, Roy Chester Giles, William (Lovie) Giles, all of Flint, MI and Donald (Delois) Giles of Lithonia, Ga; three daughters, Gladys (Phillip) Duncan of Burton, MI, Ann Duncan of Flint, MI, Kathleen Giles of Detroit, MI and on special daughter, Patience (Terry) Saines of Aldie, VA; 10 grandchildren, Sheila (Curtis) Henry, Gregory (Christina) Duncan, Alvin (Lequita) Duncan, Tiffany Garner, Kevin Giles, Joseph (Stacy) Giles, Jamal Duncan, Lewis Roberts, Koran Saines, Qiana Saines; fourteen great-grand children; three brothers, Jim (Jean) Brown, Samuel Brown of Ellenwood, GA, Rev. Roosevelt (Birdie) Brown of Mt. Morris, MI; three sisters, Katherine Kenebrew, Eunice Ogburn, Narvella (Ernest) Lock; 6 sisters-in-law, Susie Brown of Mt. Morris, MI, Helen Brown of Detroit, Eloise (William) Vanhook of Gardenia, CA, Lucrecia Smith of Rockford, IL, Elnora Burton of Flint; brother-in-law, William (Diane) Vanhook of Gardenia, CA, special friends, Mrs. Fannie Thomas, Velma Watkins; special neighbors, Mrs. Ola Cummings, Mrs. Juanita Rutherford and Mrs. Flo Breed; surrogate sons, Lewis (Sandra) Becoats, Leviticus (Terri) Williams; Thuster (Nora) Cannon, William (Sandra) Fisher, Charles Smalls, Lester (Terri) Wheeler, Rev. Kim (Shirley) Yarber and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. W.G. Terry and the New Zion Church Family, Dr. Syed Satter, the staff of VAAA medical and the fourth floor Cardiac Critical Care unit at Hurley Medical Center.
