Mrs. Nettie Ruth Fleming

FLEMING, Mrs. Nettie Ruth - Age 88, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Samuel Berry III, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Fleming will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Nettie Ruth Fleming “Aunt Net” was born January 28, 1931 in Scott County, Mississippi, the daughter of Jim and Gladys (Dansby) Jones. Nettie was a proud and faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served on the Usher Board until she was unable to. She loved sports and played basketball for her alma mater, Scott County High School. Following graduation, Nettie moved to Muskegon, MI where her entrepreneur spirit led her to opening her own grocery store. She later moved to Chicago, IL and Detroit, MI before moving to Flint, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Grant Fleming. Mrs. Fleming was employed at Fisher Body, a division of General Motors Corporation until she retired in the early 80’s. She loved her family dearly and one of her most anticipated events was the Jim Jones Family Reunion,.where the descendants of Jim Jones and Gladys (Dansby) Jones would gather for fellowship, worship and to sow seeds of love and wisdom to the generations behind them. Nettie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In them she instilled the importance of a higher education and a personal relationship with God. Mrs. Nettie Ruth Fleming leaves to cherish her memory: grandchildren, Harry (Sarina) Harris III of Clio, MI, Albert (Serena) Young of Mt. Morris, MI, Will (Alice) Riley of Cypress, TX, Lisa Montgomery of Ellenwood, GA, Alby (Barbara) Winfrey, Chad (Adrienne) Galloway and Queon Galloway, all of Flint; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hilton E. (Jones) Gordon of Vicksburg, MS; brother, Joe Louis (Carrie) Jones of Mt. Morris, MI; sister-in-law, Clara Mae Triggs; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mamie Holden and Olla Ellison. Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Fleming; daughter, Eddie Mae Harris; son, Willie C. Fleming; daughter-in-law, Lela Fleming; grandsons, Mario Fleming and Johnnie Montgomery; and special friend, Mollie Hairston. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Samuel Berry III and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Alfred Harris, nurse, Quinnell Adams, Hurley Medical Center ICU Team and Dr. Henry Mendoza MD.
