Naomi Davis

DAVIS, Mrs. Naomi - Age 83, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at North Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1657 E. Broadway Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor James O. Flowers, Sr., officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Davis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Naomi Davis was born May 1, 1927 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of Alvin and Mozella Taggart, the ninth child of 11 children. Naomi attended school in Pine Bluff, AR and was a graduate of Beauty School. She moved to Flint and later married Taft Davis. Naomi was a very faithful member of North Star Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, the official 1st Kitchen Committee, the Mother’s Board and Senior Sunday School Class. She was a Lunch Aide at Parkland Elementary School and also worked in housekeeping at Walter Winchester Hospital in Flint. Naomi also was a Caregiver for mentally challenged adults. Her hobbies included faithfully reading her Bible, talking on the phone and baking as many pound cakes as possible. Naomi was a loving mother and grandmother who opened her heart and home to many. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: 3 daughters, Paulette Baker, Johnnia Mae Pittman and Brenda Pittman-Parks; son, Booker Lang, all of Flint; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Love of Pine Bluff, AR and Georgia Matthews of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends, Willie Mae “Pokie” Davis, Gloria Blacksure, Linda and Pastor James O. Flowers. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Taft Davis; parents, Alvin and Mozella Taggart; 2 brothers; and 7 sisters. The family would like to express special thanks to nurse, Julie Utleger and Hospice Advantage, Dr. B. Noveloso, Pastor James O. Flowers, Sr. and the North Star Baptist Church family.
