Mrs. Myrtle Howell

HOWELL, Mrs. Myrtle - Age 85, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Genesys Health Park. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2014 at South East Christian Church, 4171 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Kenneth M. Brown, Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Howell will lie in state in the Sanctuary of South East Christian Church, 4171 Lapeer Rd., and may be viewed from 4-6 p.m. Sunday with Homegoing service from 6-8 p.m. Missionary Myrtle Howell was born April 22, 1929 in San Antonio Texas, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John and Mary Tones. She received her education in the San Antonio public school system, and earned a degree in Cosmetology. She was the eighth of nine siblings. Mother Howell loved to travel. She was married to the late David Earl Walton and to this union was born one son. Upon moving to Flint, MI she was invited to visit Bethlehem Temple Church by the late Sis. Gwendolyn Scott and in 1966 she was filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost under the pastorate of the late District Elder B.T. Scott. In 1969 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Deacon M.C. Howell who was a widower with eight (8) children. She willingly took on this challenge and the responsibility and by the grace and wisdom of God was able to complete the task. Mother Howell loved to fish, cook and decorate for special occasions, always paying attention to details. She loved the Lord and her church family. Mother Howell joined Southeast Christian Church in 1987 where she served as the Missionary Chairlady, Prayer Band Leader. She was faithful to the house of the Lord always looking out for the seniors. She willingly gave her life to the service of the Lord. Her favorite scripture being: Psalms 119:165 “Great Peace have thy that love thy law and nothing shall offend thee.” Mother Howell truly has fought a good fight. She has kept the faith she has finished her course Henceforth is laid up for her a crown of righteousness....” Mother Howell leaves in Gods care and treasure, lasting memories: 4 sons, Samuel Walton, James (Marilyn) Howell, Linnel (Yvonne) Howell, M.C. (Jackie) Howell and Mark (Lubelia) Howell; 4 daughters, Collean Jones, Betty (Robert) Reid, First Lady Juliet (Pastor Kenneth) Brown and Maggie Jackson; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Barton; god-daughter, the late LaCresia Paige; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives including the Southeast Christian Church family where her son-in-law, Pastor Kenneth M. Brown is the Overseer. Mother Howell was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon M. C. Howell, Sr.; parents; John and Mary Tones, sisters; Irene Dixon, Lucille Clay, Harriette Curtis, Lois Tones and Pearl Hawkins, brothers; J. C. Tones and Marvin Tones. The family wishes to extend special thanks to: Dr. Kelvin Calloway, Heartland Nursing Home, Bro. Gideon & Minister Linetta Williams, and Sis. Cheri Brown.
