SMITH, Mother Iola "Ola" - Age 63, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at her residence. Family hour 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2010 at Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2202 W. Dartmouth St., with funeral service commencing at 1 p.m., Bishop M.C. Akins officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30 p.m. Monday. Mother Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. There will be no public viewing. Mother Iola “Ola” Smith was born March 10, 1947 in Reydell, Arkansas. Iola was the daughter of Ira Harris and Georganna Dandle and a loving wife and mother of 5 beautiful children. “Ola” Smith accepted Christ at a young age in Reydell, Arkansas where she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and upon her relocation to Flint; she became a member of Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church. She attended schools in Reydell, AR, and later she continued her education in Flint getting her Associates Degree from Jordan Community College. Mother Iola “Ola” Smith leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Tammy Smith; 4 sons, Tito, LaGandry and Deontae Smith, all of Flint, and Dekova “Choc” Smith stationed in Iraq; 9 grandchildren, Tasheyanna, Mariah “Betty Boop”, Tito Jr., Destony, Javontae, Syesha, Deontae, Jr. and ShyRemy’a Smith, all of Flint and Keosha Thomas; 2 sisters, Bernice Ross of Flint and Daisy Newsome; 2 brothers, Curtis Harris and Albert “Kyong” Harris, all of Little Rock, AR; goddaughter, Rachel Lawson; special daughter and sons, Donnie Dubois, Ayana and Terell Welch, all of Flint; special friends, Bessie King and Ruth Williams; sister-in-law, Deborah Harris; loving nieces, Thelma Johnson and Angelina Harris; a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Georganna Dandle; father, Ira Harris; brother, Nathaniel Harris; niece, Trinity Harris; sister, Mary Alexander; and nephew, Frank Ross. The family would like to express special thanks to mothers of her grandchildren, Nikki, Quetta and Cindy, Nurse Todd from Hartland Hospice Center, Dr. E. Saeed at Hurley Plaza, Dr. Danish at Hurley Cancer Institution, Bishop M.C. Akins and the Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church family.
