Mother Jessie Flynn

FLYNN, Mother Lou Jessie - Age 101, answered the Lord's call Saturday, April 23, 2005 at her residence. Family hour 10:30AM Friday April 29, 2005 at Canaan Baptist Church 910 E. Gillespie St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery G-5175 Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Mother Flynn will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2-8PM Thursday. Mother Lou Jessie Flynn was born August 16, 1903 in Sogohacia, Arkansas, the daughter of Emera and Dora (Vaughn) Hill. She met and married Elbert Flynn, they enjoyed thirty-eight years of marriage; and to their union eleven children were born. Mother Flynn was faithful member of the Canaan Baptist Church for over fifty years. She touched many lives with her words of wisdom, comfort food, sense of humor, and love. She was affectionately known as "Granny" and "Girlfriend." Mother served on the Mother's Board and the Nurse's Guild. She was a former member of the Michigan Society of Gerontology and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was avid reader who believed in education, receiving her high school diploma in 1991, graduating with honors at the age of eighty-eight. Mother Flynn continued to live a blessed life until she was called home. Mother Flynn leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Charlene Cabine and Martha Burnett; sons, Ollis (Wilma J.) and Richard (Dorothy) Flynn all of Flint; devoted caregiver, Chiffon and Clarence Wilson; devoted companions, Kiwana Burnett, Dorsey Bone, Keoshee Flynn, Robin Flynn, Kena Mays, Ruby Relerford, Angela Thompson, Minister Erika Warren and Natascha Wilson; adopted daughters, Dolores Edmonds and Harriet Willis; daughters-in-law, Willie Ann Flynn and Lorene Flynn; son-in-law, Curldean Thames; sister-in-law, Anna Bell Hill of Tulsa, OK; special friends, Leslie Foster of Saginaw, Hazel Gray, Ola Cummings, Dillie Bilberry and Mazel Ramey; Mother Flynn was blessed to see five generations, which include 31 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren. Mother Flynn was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Flynn; sons, Curtis, Leon, Clayton, and Loye Flynn; daughters, Helen Toles, Augustine Thames and Loise Jackson. The family would like to express special thanks to Heartland Hospice, Edie Daniels, Dawn Lawson, Mary Moritz, Dr. Abdullah Raffee and his staff and the Canaan Baptist Church family.
