BLANKS, Mother Ludell R. - Age 79, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 8266 N. Vassar Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Pastor T.J. Lee officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Monday. Mother Blanks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday with Praise Service from 4-6 p.m. Mother Ludell Roszella Blanks was born March 5, 1931 in Mexia, Texas the daughter of John and Rosie (Tolbert) Price. Mother Blanks became a resident of Flint in 1953. She was a proud and devoted member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church for 46 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Secretary and on the Kitchen Committee. Mother Blanks was also a member of The Great Lakes District Ministers Wives and Widows Association. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and singing. Mother Blanks instilled good moral values and was a devoted wife to the late Rev. Robert L. Blanks, Sr. and loving mother to all. She was also an avid sports fan and “Buc Town’s Grandma.” Mother Blanks didn’t play when it came to her grandchildren, she would threaten whom ever bothered them with her walking cane. She was the last of 17 children to come into the world and the last to exit. Mother Ludell Roszella Blanks leaves to cherish her memory: 8 children, Pastor Robert L. (Cynthia) Blanks, Jr., Michael G. (Tameka) Blanks, Stanley (Linda) Gaither, Martha R. Derricks, Margaret Darlene Blanks, Carolyn Blanks, Valerie Mangham, all of Flint and Sharon Blanks of Detroit, MI; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorena Beard, Mary Montgomery and Helen Richardson, all of Flint; brother, Ellsworth McCampbell of Flint; host of nieces including special niece, Wanda Price-Jackson of Houston, TX; a host of nephews including special nephews, Shenandoah Price of Atlanta, GA and Artharee Hutchins of California; son-in-law, Robert L. Derricks, Sr. of Flint; sister-in-law, Helen Smith of Kerrville, TX; brother-in-law, Douglas Butch (Jackie) Anderson of Houston, TX; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mother Gladys Anderson, cousin, Elizabeth Owens, the Eldon Road and Neff Road families, Belinda and Spencer Eason, Larry Smith and oldest daughter, Edith M. Whitaker. Rev. Robert L. Blanks, Sr. was the "Head" of the family and Mother Blanks was in the "Heart" of the family. Mother Blanks was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Robert L. Blanks, Sr.; 2 sons, Johnie Blanks, Sr. and Samuel Blanks, Sr.; daughter, Toi Blanks; 2 great-grandchildren, Samantha Robinson and Maliya Givens; parents, John and Rosie Price; and 16 siblings.
