Minnie Fields

FIELDS, Minnie Canary (Jackson) - Age 83, died peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10AM Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Dr. A.J. Pointer, Pastor, Rev.Woody Etherly officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Wednesday. Mrs. Fields will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 10AM Tuesday. Minnie Canary (Jackson) Fields was born on April 27, 1922 in Horn Lake, Mississippi to Herman and Gertrude (Harris) Jackson, and had been a resident of Flint, MI since 1948. She was a faithful member of Metropolitan Church, the Willing Workers Missionary Society and the choir until her health declined. She was a General Motors employee for 28 years, a member of UAW Local #326 and a former member of the Visually Impaired Center Board of Directors. She was an excellent cook and her hobbies were crossword puzzles, traveling, dining, bridge and crocheting. Due to family circumstances, she was unable to complete her formal education; however, she always had a thirst for knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed classes at Genesee Community College (now MCC). Memorial contributions can be made to the Foundation for Mott Community College/Women In Education Fellowship, 1401 E. Court St., Flint, MI 48503 or the Michigan Eye Bank, 1000 Wall St., Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Mrs. Fields is survived by her daughter, Ernelle Taylor; grandson, Terry Taylor; sister, Seania Faulkner; special granddaughter, Angela Taylor; many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Gerrilyn Crawford, cousins and friends. Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by her daughter, Nadine Marve; parents; sisters, Voytress Tipton and Fannie M. Bowers; brothers, Dallas, Bertrude and Herman Jackson, Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to all of the friends who visited her, sent cards and flowers, or telephoned her during her long illness. They are also very appreciative to the entire Avalon Hospice staff, with special thanks to Mohammed Hosain and Sylvia Holden for the excellent care she received.
