SMALLEY, Mother Mildred Geneva - Age 88, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Crestmont Nursing Home. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2013 at Galilean Baptist Church, 109 W. Holbrook Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Shawn Payne, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mother Smalley will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. Mother Mildred “Me-Me” Geneva Smalley was born on March 5, 1925 in Wigham, Georgia, to the late Rev. Dave Thomas and the late Annie P. Taylor. She graduated from Hutto High School in Bainbridge, Georgia. She confessed hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age and united with the Hot Springs Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia. Mother Smalley relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1962. She would later unite with the Foss Avenue Baptist church where she served on the Pastoral Aide Ministry. Mildred was a very loving and tender hearted person who loved her family unconditionally. She loved the Lord and was devoted to her Christian faith and did not forsake to assemble herself in church. Mildred loved to travel and was a great cook who loved to feed her family. Mother Mildred Smalley leaves to cherish her memories: 3 daughters; Edna Smalley of Flint, Sharyal Johnson of Grand Blanc and Gwendolyn (Jasper) Brown of Donalsonville, GA; 2 sons, Faried Hassan of Phoenix, AZ., and Daniel (Darleen) Smalley of Flint Township; grandsons, Greg (Jackie) Smalley of Fort Washington, MD, Rodzell Christopher (Kara) Smalley of Flint, Derick Smalley and Reggie Brown, both of Donalsonville, GA, Pastor Sean (Sonya) Payne of Flint, Shemmuel (Veria) Hassan of Phoenix, AZ, Faried Hassan of Oklahoma, Brent (Erica) Smalley of Huntsville, AL, Daniel, Michael and Mant’a Smalley, all of Flint; granddaughters, Jackie (John) Whiten of Fort Washington, MD, Kimberly Brown of Donalsonville, GA, Kenyana Payne of Flint, Nana Smalley of California, Amendea (Tim) of Phoenix, AZ, Diadi Hassan of Charlotte, NC, Frediedi Hassan of Oklahoma City, OK, Maryam Hassan of Colorado and Brenia Smalley of Flint; 3 sisters, Josie Edwards, Louise Sherman, Vera Thomas, all of Bainbridge, GA; brother, Albert Thomas of Miami, FL. nieces, Annie (Johnny) Benton of Detroit, MI, and Sherry Edwards of Bainbridge, GA, Carlene (Arthur) Douglas of Middletown, DE, Sister-in-law, Carolyn Thomas of Middletown, DE., brother-in-law, Charles Mitchell of Utica, NY., Enoph and Frank (Emma) Mitchell, all of Climax, GA; numerous cousins and other relatives survive. Mother Mildred Smalley was preceded in death by father, Rev. Dave Thomas; mother, Annie P. Thomas-Taylor; granddaughters, Sakeala Wade and Contrina Smalley; brother, Nathaniel Thomas, sisters-in-law, Emma Patison, Grace McClain and Bill Edwards The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff of Kith Haven and Crestmont Nursing Home, Pastor Lewis Randolph and the Antioch MB Church family, Pastor Sean Payne and the Galilean Baptist church family, Pastor Major A.
