Mildred Blackwell

BLACKWELL, Mrs. Mildred - Age 63, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 11AM Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2202 W. Darthmouth St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Bishop M.C. Akins officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mrs. Blackwell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday and 10AM-8PM Friday. Mrs. Mildred Mae Blackwell was born January 14, 1945 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the daughter of Simon Washington, Sr., and Birtie Mae Pruitt. Mildred resided in Chatham, Alabama before moving to Flint, MI in 1974. She was a member of Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church and Family Baptist Church. Mildred graduated from Washington County High School in Chatham, AL. She was employed as a Foster Care Provider for the State of Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Dons Foster Care and other agencies throughout the city. Mildred enjoyed cooking, feeding everybody, watching All My Children, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Matlock, Texas Ranger, and yelling at the Pistons. She loved listening to gospel music, and “Special Outings” with family and friends. Mrs. Mildred Mae Blackwell leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Ronald Blackwell; 3 daughters, Farrah, Nikibra, and Felicia Jenkins; 2 daughters-in-law, Carla Jenkins and special daughter-in-law, Brenda Jenkins; 9 sons, Michael A. (Nina) Washington, Jr., Lamar Jenkins, Otis W. (Andrea) Jenkins, Tony D. (Brenda) Jenkins, David A. Jenkins, Christian B. (Shaquese) Jenkins, Sr., Jenrick S. Jenkins, Justin G. Jenkins, and Darren Clay, all of Flint; stepson, Michael (Tonya) Blackwell, Sr. of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Antonio, Ebony, Miyesha, Michael W. Jr., Christian Jr., Jajuan, Mekayla, Ny’Azia, Jakayri, Ta’Risha, Alexis, Toni, Andre, Raheem, Jasmine, Ar’Keavis, Ty’esha, Teonna, Daniel, Michael B. Jr., Brianna, Ladarius and Trevion; great grandchild, De’Arrion; 2 brothers, Osby (Helen) Washington of Pensacola, FL and Judge (Dorothy) Washington of Lockport, NY; 15 nieces including special nieces, Teresa, Melesa, Tenesa and Lekesa; 15 nephews; 6 aunts; 1 uncle; many cousins; mother and father-in-law, Joseph (Anna) Blackwell of Pittsburgh, PA; 4 sisters-in-law, Fannie Jones, Linda Branch, Carol Ellis, all of Pittsburgh, PA and very special sister-in-law, Helen Washington of Pensacola, FL; brother-in-law, Richard Blackwell of Pittsburgh, PA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Sylvia Calloway, Lillie Kirby, Hattie Bingham, Dorothy Hill, Ethel Collins, Pam Morris, Victoria Johnson, Pearlie Mae, Doretha Gibson, Diane Smith, Rene Cooper and Melanie Davis. Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by her sons, Willie Earl Jenkins, Otis W. Jenkins, Sr.; parents, Simon Washington Sr., and Birtie Mae Pruitt; uncle and aunt, Judge and Fennie Washington; sister, Mary L. Stewart; brothers, Simon Washington Jr., Collier and Riley Washington; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Washington; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Obie Pruitt.
