MATTHEWS, Mr. Michael Leroy - Age 62, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, February 18, 2017 from the Chapel of Lawrence . Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Family and friends will assemble at the Chapel 1:30 PM Saturday. Mr. Matthews will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM-8:00 PM on Friday. Mr. Michael Leroy Matthews was born September 14, 1954 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Luke and Louise (Dupree) Matthews. He was a resident of Mt. Morris, MI since 2013. Michael was a member of Prayer Garden Church Of God In Christ. He studied various religions abroad which included: Muslims, Jehovah Witness, Mormon, Catholic and Christianity. He earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Michigan State Univerisity, General Studies from Jordan College and held a Masters Degree of Life. Michael was employed at Kimco, Superior Plastics, Avon Gear, AI (Android Industries), New Passages, Genesee County’s Genesee Belle, Trillium Staffing, Manpower, Forklift and the Palace of Auburn Hills. He loved serving and protecting people as a Direct Care Worker, Physical Non Physical Intervention Instructor and a Martial Artist in a group called “The Karate Brothers”. Michael was very outspoken, outgoing, energetic and full of life. Mr. Michael Leroy Matthews leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Lori Franklin of Flint; son, Jermaine Burt; 6 step-children, Precious, Brianni, Brandi, Corey, Toya and Diona; grandchildren, Jermaine Burt Jr., Brayelon Joyner, Jacobi Burt, Khalid Taylor, Elizabeth White, Kylie Nash and Uriah Isom, all of Flint; 2 sisters, Betty Johnson and Mary Matthews; 5 brothers, Mark Matthews, Luke (Rebecca) Matthews, John Matthews, Terry Matthews and Umar Shahid; 23 nieces and 14 nephews, Barbara (Dwight) Hall, Bonita Harris, Brenda Sykes, Felicia Warthon, Shondrey Boyland, Sharon Barron, Clark (Darlene) Matthews, Donearl (Jenetta) Johnson, James (Claire) Johnson, LaKisha Johnson, Matrisha Johnson, Brandon, Dekia, Esther, Jessica, Marissa, Michael and Moriah Matthews, Robert Love, Sharmaine, Shlonna, Terrence, Vatina, Jenelle, Luke and Nadia Matthews, Lukisha Milton, Randy Milton, Merrick Wilson, Tiffany Matthews, Terry “T-Bear” “The BBQ Daddy” Matthews Jr., Najee, Marquetta, Murad and Rashad Shahid, Jahon and Nehna Matthews; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Barbara (Ward) Matthews; brother-in-law, JB Johnson; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Paris Mckenzie. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his grandson, Jamari Evans; parents, Luke and Louise Matthews; sister, Ethel Warthon; brothers, Merrick and Walter Matthews; brother-in-law, Robert Warthon.
