Mr. Merlin Jasper Crain

CRAIN, Mr. Merlin - Age 48, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw Street. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mr. Crain will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home., and may be viewed from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Merlin Jasper Crain was born October 24, 1964 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Mildred Ross Pearson and Walter Crain. He was a resident of Flint for the last 13 years. Merlin was a very kind and respected person. He loved to Listen to music, party and sing; he had a great voice. Merlin loved to use his hands; “Merl” was a great handy man. He loved helping people in their time of need; anything he had and you needed it, he gave it to you. Merlin cherished his children and family; he made sure he stayed close. Mr. Merlin Jasper Crain leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Coretta (Smith) Crain; 2 daughters, Coretta Jeanette Elvee Smith and Mildred Janise Smith; 2 sons, Melin Jasper Smith and Claude Johnson; parents, Mildred (Ross) Pearson and Walter Crain; step-father, Wesley Pearson; 3 brothers, Walter Crain, James Johnson and Jackieray Crain; 5 nieces, Laura Green, Sharlene Winans, Megan Chapman, Stanley Garrett and Sha`keya Gray; 2 nephews, Jackie Winans and Seth Chapman; cousins, Lakeisha Williams, Germaine Ross, Michelle Williams, Terrell Williams and Annie May Williams; sister-in-law, Carman Smith; brother-in-law, Harold Chapman; a host of other relatives and friends including, best friend, Vent; very special woman, Orlanda Walker and special friend, Rufus. Mr. Crain was preceded in death by his brother, Benny Johnson; grandparents, Estella Ross and Isaac Ross; nephew, James Winans; uncles, Willie B. Ross, Freddy Ross and Eddie Tolbert; cousins, Reginald Ross and Doris Williams. The family would like to express special thanks to the people that helped them in their time of need and to all the people who has come out to show their respects and condolences to Merlin.
