Mr. Melvin C. Roberts

ROBERTS, Mr. Melvin C. - Age 73, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12 noon. Pastor Latrelle Holmes, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Roberts will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Melvin C. Roberts was born January 4, 1940 in LaGrange, Georgia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie and Cora Roberts. He has been a resident of Flint, Michigan for the past 57 years. Mr. Roberts was a retiree of General Motors. He was also the proud owner of Roberts Excavating and Classic Charter and Tours. He was a member of Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Roberts was the true definition of a workaholic in every sense of the word. He loved operating all types of machinery and working on difficult excavating plans. Mr. Roberts was a good hearted man and would go out of his way to help his fellow man. In his past time he loved cooking and his family loved eating the different dishes he would prepare. Mr. Melvin C. Roberts leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 32 years, Deborah A. Roberts; daughters, Catherine D. Roberts of Flint and Sharon D. (Felix) Owens of Charlotte, NC; sons, Andre’ D. (Mary) Holloway and Eric (Patrice) Holloway, both of Flint; grandchildren, Jorona Richardson, Kimshasa Green, Cherrelle (Merrick) Cotton, Chantell Jones, Ashley Roberts, Marshall (Tarina) Green, Joy Bell, Nicole Bell, DeAndra Holloway, Andre’ Holloway II, Dre’Von Holloway, Amari Holloway and Adarien Holloway; great-grandchildren, Jacquese Richardson, Keosha Nash, Ke’Aiyshia Nash, Gabrielle Green, Sydney Green, Jeremiah Harris and MaKayla Green; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Thomas) Hargrove of Raleigh, NC, Viola (Merle) Pratt of Ypsilanti, MI and Juanita Adams of LaGrange, GA; brothers, Freddie (Dollene) Roberts of Flint and Ralph (Gwen) Truitt of Ypsilanti; aunt, Janie Hardnett of LaGrange, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousin, Bobby Roberts who was like a brother and Frankie Truitt; longtime friend of 50 plus years, Billy Brown and many others. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by son, Melvin C. Roberts Jr.; grandson, Nickolas M. Roberts; parents, Cora Roberts and Eddie Roberts; Katie Ogletree and Mary Gladys Roman; and brothers, Eddie Roberts, John Roberts, Willie Roberts.
