Mr. Melvin Mastin

MASTIN, Mr. Melvin - Age 58, passed away, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at his residence. Family hour10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Albert Haynes, Jr. officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbeaers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Mastin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 noon - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Melvin “Drac” Mastin was born December 15, 1953 in Fayetteville, Tennessee, the son of James and Clara Mastin. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School “Class of 1972”. Melvin worked for National Freight Trucking; he was a veteran of the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged. Melvin loved to read and had a particular interest in local, state and national politics. Some say he would read the ink right off the page. Melvin also enjoyed playing cards, pool and dominos. Mr. Melvin “Drac” Mastin leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Clara Mastin of Flint; 3 sisters, Deborah Mastin, Veronica Mastin, both of Flint and Donna (Earl) Hampton of Montrose, MI; brother, Chris Mastin; 2 nieces, Essence (Glen) Wilson and Ashley Mastin-Chapman; nephew, Roger Campbell, all of Flint; 9 aunts, including Mattie Chevalier of California, Cecelia Mastin and Barbra Perkins, both of Flint and 6 aunts in Tennessee; 3 uncles, Earl Kimbrough and Otha Mastin, both of Canton, OH and Sam Kimbrough of Flint; several cousins, Ronnie and Clarence Mastin, Minnie Mastin and the Fowler and Kimbrough families of MI, OH, CA and AL a host of other relatives and friends, Larry Jones, Harvey Logan, Anthony Monroe, Mario Williams, Tommie Davis, Bill Jones, Michael Streeter and the Martin School Community, the Haywood, Mosley, Paige families, Maxine Miles and family; goddaughters, Isabelle Logan and Shala Gregory. Mr. Mastin was preceded in death by his father, James Mastin; sister, Vickie Balknight; cousins, LouAnn Kimbrough, Michael Kimbrough, family friends, Roy Paige, Sr., Kelvin Mosley, Sr., Jonathon “Jay” Donald, Larry Humphrey and Jimmy Balknight. The family would like to express special thanks to the many friends, relatives and acquaintances that have shown their care and concern for Melvin and his family over the years and during this time.
