Mrs. Melverta Bolds

BOLDS, Ms. Melverta, Age 102, passed Monday, May 4, 2020 at Willowbrook Manor. Due to the current public health and safety concerns that we are facing at this time there will be no public viewing. Mrs. Melverta Bolds was born November 27, 1917 in Marianna, Arkansas, the daughter of Willie and Lula (Fisher) McDowell. Melverta moved to Flint, Michigan in 1947 with her husband, Leonard Bolds and family. She was a longtime member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir and was a member of the Missionary Society. Melverta worked for many years as a Nurse at Flint Osteopathic Hospital before retiring. After retirement, she did Home Care Nursing and volunteer work at the senior centers. Her family was always first, cooking and entertaining us at large gatherings at her home on holidays or any day. We were all special in her life, no picks. There were times when I called her Rose because she loved roses and she smiled and said “you’re right.” Mrs. Melverta Bolds leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Ossie Smith of Flint; son, Terry T. Bolds of Woodland Hills, CA; adopted daughter, Fannie (Joe) Barfield of Burton, MI; grandchildren, Ralph Smith of Saginaw, MI, Donald Allen of Davison, MI, Cathy Bryant of Cincinnati, OH, Samori Bolds of Atlanta, GA, Rosalind Smith of Davison, MI Leonard (Alexis) Simmons of Tampa, FL and Darius Recard Sr.; great-grandchildren, Latricka (Dan) Knox, Toya Young, Joshua Ford, Ralph Smith Sr., Kelly Dixon, Sincere Bolds, LaBrea Bryant, Laurien Bryant, Samari Bolds, Lyndon and Althea Simmons, Darius Recard III, Asia (Frank) Walton and India Smith; 16 great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Latoya and Donna White of Chicago, IL; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Rev. Tony Dunigan, Min. Joseph Gaines, Ms. Audry Banks, Ms. Gail Edwards, the Eason, Brown and Fisher families, and our neighbors on Baldwin St., the Johnson and Thompson families. Mrs. Bolds was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Bolds; 2 sons, Leonard Bolds Jr. and Ronald Bolds; grandson, Darius Recard Sr.; parents, Willie and Lula McDowell; sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Samuel Berry III and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church family, the Willowbrook Manor doctors and nursing staff.
