Mr. Maurice Cornell Cox

COX, Mr. Maurice Cornell - Age 65, passes away Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Katy, TX. Family hour 9:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2019 at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries, 2430 Dutcher St., with funeral services commencing at 10:00 AM Dr. Lonnie Brown, officiating. Friends and family will assemble at the church 9:00 AM Friday. Mr. Cox will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday with the family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM to receive friends. Maurice Cox was born in Flint, Michigan on December 7, 1953, the son of Jessie Buster Evans and Dorothy Lee Oldham. Maurice was called to our Lord on June 2, 2019 Maurice who was also affectionately known as “ Moe” held a career as a Certified Addition Counselor, (CAC II) and specializing in transitional and recovery housing. Maurice was also an entrepreneur and own and operated multiple transitional living facilities. Throughout his career he positively impacted thousands of lives through counseling and mentoring. Maurice was charismatic, a master communicator, superb persuader and true storyteller. He loved sports and was an athlete himself. He was a noted member of the swim and football team in high school and went on to play college football at University of Wisconsin-Milton in Milton, Wisconsin. Maurice was avid fisherman throughout his life. Maurice was a spiritual man was involved in many church activities and served a Armor Bearer at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries. Maurice was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Maurice Cox leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife, Sandra Cox; mother, Dorthy Oldham; 3 daughters, Brandie (Duron), Angela, Alivia and step-daughter, Asha; 6 grandchildren, Tyresha, Amani, Amir, Duron Jr., Sheron and Mason; great-granddaughter, Lola; sisters and brothers, James (Debra) Prim of Milwaukee, Teresa Rufaro (Sequane) Prim-Lawrence of Chicago, Michael (Debria) Smith of Jackson, MS and Alma Bruce of Hartford, CT, Harold Jones of Dallas, Earl Jones, Tora “Peaches” Marshall, all of Flint; nieces and nephews, Michael James Ness, Hondo Lawrence, Theresa Stevens, Rika Lawrence, Latonya Deidrich, Jeremy Prim, Teagan Cowan, Ahmad Smith, Jabril Smith, Shonda Smith, Safiya Smith and Ashley Williams; a host of other dear relatives and friends. Maurice was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jessie Cox; grandmother, Beatrice Cox; mother of his children, Deborah Davis-Cox; step-brothers, Bruno Smith and Lamar Smith; and dear friend, Steve Taylor.
