THOMPSON, Mrs. Mattie May - Age 88, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, 115 Welch Blvd., with funeral service commencing 11 a.m. Pastor Floyd Fuller, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Mattie May Jones Thompson, the daughter of Tom and Isabella (Craig) Jones, was born in Henderson, Texas on April 3, 1923. She grew up in Henderson, Texas and at an early age she committed her life to the Lord and served as a faithful member of Mother Zion Baptist Church. Mattie was a stay at home mom, caring for her children. She taught her children the way of God which is, to treat everyone the way you want to be treated and to work hard. She left Henderson, Texas and moved to Flint in 1966 where she united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. It became more challenging for her to get to Mt. Olive, so in 2000 she united with Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. At the church she was known as a fantastic cook. She spent her time caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Spending time with her church family as well as her biological family was one of her greatest joys. She loved traveling with them to various places. Mother Thompson also enjoyed sewing. Mother Mattie May Jones Thompson leaves to cherish life lessons and sweet memories: 3 daughters, Tommie Jean (Mac) Davis of Grand Blanc, Ruth Everett and Billie Jean Wilson, both of Flint; 4 grandsons; 4 granddaughters; a host of other relatives including great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends Mrs. Ann Thompson, Mrs. Mildred Brent, Mrs. Elizabeth Bridgewater and Mrs. Corine Threlkeld. Mrs. Mattie Thompson is also the aunt of Dr. Johnnye M. Jones Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas College in Tyler, Texas and whom was born on the same birthday 20 years later. Mother Thompson was preceded in death by 2 sons, Chamberlain Edward Wright and Billy Wayne Everett; and 1 grandson, Dr. Reginald Moore; 4 sisters, Agnes, Amelia, Cardelia and Emma; 2 brothers, Roy and William. The family of Mother Thompson extends great appreciation to Pastor Floyd Fuller, Sr. and the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church Family, Pastor Lewis Randolph and the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family and to her neighbors on Apple Creek Trail.
