Mrs. Mattie Pearl Ross

ROSS, Mrs. Mattie Pearl - age 74, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with memorial service commencing at 2 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Ross will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. There will be no public viewing. Mrs. Mattie Pearl Ross was born October 27, 1939 in Decatur, Alabama the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Judge and Wyley Lewis. Mattie moved to Flint, Michigan in 1950 with her family. She attended Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1957.” Mattie was married to the late Richard Ross in 1958 and to this union they had one child. She moved to Englewood, California, where she was a resident for 30 years. Mattie was employed with the Winthrop Book Binding Company for 25 years. She returned to Flint in 1998. Mattie enjoyed cooking, fishing, shopping (she was a very sharp dresser) and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Mattie P. Ross leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Sheri Ross; 4 grandchildren, Ashley Hill, Marcia Ramsey, China Ross and Albert Lewis; 3 great-grandchildren, Aiveyahna Sutters, Jarena Lee and King Josiah Lee, all of Flint; 4 sisters, Geraldine Hobbs of Flint, Elizabeth (Thomas) Rowland of Memphis, TN, Waniece (Leon) Smith of Grand Blanc, MI and Donna (Larry) Brown of Flint Township, MI; 5 brothers, Floyd Lewis of Carlyle, IL, Edward Lee (Altheia) Lewis, Marcus (Berthetta) Lewis, all of Flint, Rodney (Carolyn) Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV and Tony (Sherry) Mitchell of Ishpeming, MI; sister-in-law, Lauri Mitchell of Swartz Creek, MI; godson, James Hodges; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Shirley Williams, childhood friend of Flint, Bernadette Jones of Los Angeles, CA and good friend, Lillie of Bedford, MI. Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ross; parents, Judge and Wyley Lewis; brothers, Judge Lewis III, Carneal Lewis, David Lewis, Willie Mack Lewis and Dennis Mitchell; sister, Emma Roberts; brothers-in-law, Rosmond Hobbs and John Roberts III. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hospice Care and nurse Cathy.
