HORNE-MCCANN, Mrs. Mattie L. - age 80, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center-Fayetteville, NC. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Horne-McCann will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Mattie Horne-McCann was born on March 13, 1934 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the daughter of Era and Bessie (Thames) Moore. Mattie graduated from Hopewell Community High School in Philadelphia, MS. Mattie moved to Flint, Michigan in 1953. She was a hard worker. She worked at Flint General Hospital until retiring in 1980. Mattie was a faithful member of the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family until marrying Mack Henry McCann (childhood sweetheart) in 2009 and relocating to Fayetteville, North Carolina where she became a faithful member of Parks Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Grace Emmanuel always remained in her heart. She truly loved Pastor Jennings, Janis, Lawrence E. Moon, Valaria and the entire church family. She loved to read the Bible and do Word Search puzzles. Mrs. Mattie Horne-McCann leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Mack Henry McCann of Fayetteville, NC; daughters, Valerie Turner of Swartz Creek, MI, Brenda (Michael) Jefferson of Euless, TX, Vanessa Horne of Grand Blanc, MI and Alesia Guilette of Roswell, GA; sons, Robbin and Maurice Horne of Flint; grandchildren; Brionne (Robert) Chambers of Flint, Syreet Gill of Grand Blanc, MI, Brandy and Brittany Jefferson of Euless, TX, Kiara Turner of Swartz Creek, MI, Kionte Turner of Flint, Niteaka (Kamata)Ngwanbe of Chingaola, Africa, Herman Marshall III of Greenville, NC, and Tameka Bivens of Flint; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Abston of Grand Blanc, MI and Mary (William) Flippen of Flint; brothers, Lovert Moore and Rodney (Kathy) Harris; sisters-in-law, Maureen Wooten of St. Louis, MO, Laverne Moore of Flint; brother-in-law, John (Inez) McCann of Flint, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including the Flint General Hospital Family. Mrs. Horne-McCann was preceded in death by parents, Era and Bessie (Thames) Moore; sister, Carrie Mae Kilgore; brothers, Lovell, John E. and Telvin Moore. The Family has sincere gratitude for the care of our mother given by Cape Fear Valley Medical staff, Autumn Care, Pastor Nathaniel Jackson and the Parks Chapel Freewill Baptist Church family, Pastor Lam Alverson and the Trinity Assembly of God family, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr. and the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, Pastor Tracie Williams and the Divine Deliverance Ministry family, JoeEllen Adams (niece) and Gloria Parker.
