COLEMAN, Mrs. Mattie Lee - Age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Coleman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Mattie Lee Coleman was born on April 13, 1922 in Wiville, AR. The daughter of the late William and Cleo (Stewart) Shackelford. She was the 3rd child of 7 children born to this union. Mattie was united in holy matrimony to Robert Allen Coleman on March 11, 1939. To this union five children were born: Bobbie Jean, LaVerne, LaVola, Martha Jo, and Robert Allen, Jr. The family moved to Flint, Michigan in May 1947 where she resided until her death. She was employed at General Motors Ternstedt, Coldwater Rd. for 31 years, retiring in August, 1985. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age in Little Rock, AR. She was a faithful member of Canaan/Christ Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, Couples Club and numerous other organizations. Mattie was an artisan who loved cooking, sewing, quilting and crafting, more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her darling husband, Robert of 69 years. Mrs. Mattie Coleman leaves to cherish with lasting memories; 3 daughters, Bobbie J. Bard (Jehan Mansur) of San Jose, CA, LaVerne Dawkins of Burton, MI and Martha J. Bard of Grand Blanc, MI; 11 grandchildren, Scott Bard-Mansur of Flint Twp., Stephen (Lynann) Bard of Henderson, NV, Julie (Sylvester) Jones, Jr. of Grand Blanc, MI, Christopher (Nicole) Bard of Chicago, Ill, Danielle Bard of Flint, MI, James Dawkins II of Burton, MI, Marlisse Guest of Appleton, WI, Ericka (Rashad) Weatherspoon of Flint, MI, Alissa (Michael) Hooks of Grand Blanc, MI, Michelle Coleman and Christina McGlown both of Flint, MI; 20 great-grandchildren, Jene’a, Brandon, Madison, Leah, Bryce, Morgan, Payton, Aaliyah, Arianna, James III, Neveah, Sylvester III, Leilani, Bryanna, Jalesia, Ryan, Miracle Jr. Michael, Matthew and Jesharia; 2 sisters, Corine (Johnnie) Joseph of Gary, IN, Mary (John) King of Gary, IN; brother, Calvin H. Shackelford, Sr. of Little Rock, AR; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Easter of Grand Blanc, MI, Rosalie Shackelford of Davison, MI and Marie Coleman of Pine Bluff, AR; many special nieces, nephews and close family friends. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by: husband, Robert A. Coleman, Sr.; daughter, LaVola; son, Robert Jr., grandson, Bryan A. Coleman; parents, William and Cleo Shackelford-McFadden; sisters, Roberta and Beddie; brothers, William, Elroy, Fred, James; sons-in-law, Wallace R. Bard and Arthur L. Bard; sisters-in-law, Louise Henderson, Mary Frances Shackelford, Mildred L. Coleman and Gloria Coleman; brothers-in-law, Rev. Edward C. Coleman and Leon Coleman.
