Mr. Matt Jennings Burton Jr.

BURTON, Mr. Matt Jennings Jr. - Age 72, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI. Family Hour 10:00 AM Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 5152 Lennon Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Kate Morrison, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 AM Saturday. Mr. Burton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Matt J. Burton Jr. was born January 24 1951 in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of Alberta Terrell Burton and Matt Burton Sr. Matt attended Jim Hill High School in Jackson, MS where he graduated. He also attended Jackson State University. Matt moved to Flint, Michigan in 1969 and was employed at General Motors Corporation for 32 years, from which he retired. Matt met his beautiful wife, Sharon Re’nee’ Byrom in 1970 and they married in 1973. They were blessed with a son, Thmarves SheQurvest Burton. At an early age he joined Free Mission Baptist Church in Jackson, MS and in 2010, Mr. Burton and wife, Sharon joined Trinity United Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon of the Church and was a faithful Usher. Matt loved cutting grass, watching sports with his son, playing pool, bowling and being around family especially his wife and granddaughter, Thmarionna Burton. Mr. Matt J. Burton Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Sharon Burton of Swartz Creek, MI; son, Thmarves (Marquesa) Burton of Flint; 3 granddaughters, Thmarionna Re’nee’ Burton, Khdaya Watkins and Shantanika Conway, all of Michigan; 5 grandsons, Deric M. Wilson, Leo Woodley, Malik Hodo, Jayden Watkins and Zephaniah Bates, all of Michigan; 9 great-grandchildren, all of Michigan; 2 sisters, Mildrette and Linda Burton, both of Jackson, MS; 3 aunts, Addie Terrell of Plano, TX, Dorothy Terrell of Jackson, MS and Georgia McCall of Flint; 3 god-daughters, Curlisha (Ishmael Muhammad) Creighton of Decatur, GA, Caneita (William) Bosley of Pearland, TX and Stacha Hopkins of Houghton Lake, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his grandson, Deric Wilson; parents, Matt and Alberta Burton; grandparents, Albert and Mary Terrell; 5 aunts; 4 uncles; 1 niece; 1 nephew; special friends, Robert and Grayson of Flint, MI.
