TYLER, Mrs. Mary P. - Age 87, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at her residence. Family hour 10AM Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Charity United Methodist Church, 4601 Clio Rd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Dr. Hydrian Elliott officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Wednesday. Mrs. Tyler will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Palestine Tyler was born August 2, 1921 in Fredonia, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Wessie (Harris) Scott. Mary grew up in Kentucky and Indiana, where she met and later married Charles Tyler in 1943. They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1946, where she raised her large family. She attended Flint Park Methodist Church and Charity United Methodist Church. After the birth of her last child, she became employed at Hurley Hospital, retiring from there in 1984. Her hobbies prior to a stroke she suffered in 2002 included sewing, gardening, reading and playing cards with her husband (particularly winning). She was an excellent cook. She was a one-of-a-kind mother who did very little for herself, and everything for her family. Mary enjoyed the music of the Big Band Era as well as more modern artists, particularly Whitney Houston. She leaves to cherish her memory: 8 daughters, Phyllis (Norman) Hatter of Clearwater, FL, Sheryl (William) Robinson of Johnson City, TN, Beverly Jackson, Pamela Tyler, Priscilla Holland, all of Flint, Melody Tyler of Mt. Morris, MI, Regina (Carl) Cole and Tina Tyler, all of Columbia, TN; 6 sons, Kenneth (Linda) Scott of Evansville, IN, Bruce (Aurora) Tyler of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis Tyler of Ypsilanti, MI, Larry Tyler, Dale Tyler and Timothy (Monique) Tyler, all of Flint, MI; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friend, Rose Hill. Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Tyler on August 3, 2006; sons, Charles Tyler Jr. and Courtney Tyler; grandsons, Courtney String and Rodrick Tyler; parents and sisters, Florida Gillis and Dorothy Smith. The family would like to express special thanks to Charity United Methodist Church family, Betty Burroughs, Gloria Nard, Dr. Mary Cracium and Ann Burton of Visiting Physicians.
