Mrs. Mary E. Smith

SMITH, Mrs. Mary E. - Age 81, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 AM Friday, August 3, 2018 at Refuge Temple Church of Flint, 4400 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Matthew Jackson, Host Pastor, Elder Michael Hairston, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 AM Friday. Viewing will be during the family hour only. Mrs. Mary E. Smith was born March 19, 1937 in Bluff Spring, Kemper County, Mississippi, the daughter of Lucious and Lillie Johnson. They shortly thereafter moved to St. Louis, IL. She enjoyed playing in the field and was extremely spoiled being the only child. Mary moved to Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1957. She married the love of her life, Levi Smith and from that union 6 children were born. Mary was employed at Hurley Medical Center in the late 1960’s and was then employed at AC Delco, a division of General Motors and worked 24 years before retiring in the mid 90’s. She became a member of Eliezer Church of the Apostolic Faith, under Bishop Raymond H. Dunlap for many years. Later in life she was a member of Greater Redeemed Apostolic Church, Elder Michael Hairston, Pastor. Mary loved going to church praising, rejoicing and giving God glory. Her hobbies included, playing spades, fishing, traveling, watching westerns and taking long rides looking at mansions. She strongly believed that family comes first and was the rock of the family. Mrs. Mary E. Smith leaves to cherish her memory: children, Maria Smith, Tyrone Smith, Reginald Johnson and Shar’ron Smith; grandchildren, Dante Dantzler of Memphis, TN, Marty Brogdon of Southfield, MI, Andre Smith of Ceres, CA, Vanette Brown, Lanette Brown, both of Flint, Brittney Johnson of Ohio, Mario Twine and Lillian Johnson, both of Flint; great-grandchildren, Marshae Little, James Conley, Martinez Brogdon, K’hauri, Lorenzo, Andre Jr., Jasmine and Jordan Smith; great-great-grandchildren, Erion and Erin Osborne; her only living aunt, Audrey Stewart; god-daughter, Chequetta Smith; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husbands, Levi Smith and Gaston Jerome Smith; children, Gaylord LeVan Smith, Marsha Brown and Sonya Johnson; grandson, Amirade Smith; parents, Lucious and Lillie Johnson.
