Mrs. Mary B. "Mabell" Roman

ROMAN, Mrs. Mary B. "Mabell" - Age 94, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023 at her residence. Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Church of the Harvest, 2202 W. Dartmouth Ave., Bishop Neal Roberson, officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3210 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Roman will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Mary B. Roman “Mabell” was born February 26, 1929 in Chipley, Georgia, the daughter of the late Annie Lou Barton and the late Johnnie Tucker. She was employed at various restaurants in the Flint area until she retired. Mary received Christ at the age of 12 and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in LaGrange, Georgia. She was a faithful member of Heavenly Host Baptist Church which is currently Church of the Harvest International where she served faithfully as an Usher. Mary enjoyed attending worship services and could always be counted on to help serve dinners as well as other events the church was hosting. Mary’s favorite songs were “I’ll Fly Away.”, “When I Rose This Morning” and “I Will Trust In The Lord.” Her favorite scripture was John 3:16. She loved to watch Gunsmoke, Andy Griffin and Family Feud. Mary would listen to WFLT 1420 AM Christian Radio when she couldn’t attend church. She was a lifetime member of We are Making a Difference Outreach which focused on winning souls. Mary participated by going to convalescent homes and attending breakfast preparing for the unsaved. Some of her sayings are “Give me my flowers so I can smell them” and “I’m the captain of this ship, y’all just a member of the crew.” Mary looked forward to participating in two of her family’s weekly prayer conference calls. One of her words of wisdom was “Don’t forget the family prayer.” She enjoyed talking on the phone, playing Dominos and spending time with her family. The joy of her life was babysitting her grandchildren, which she was instrumental in raising a few of them. Mary was affectionately called “Maw Maw” by all her grands and great-grands. Mary will always be remembered for her consistent firmness. She didn’t sugar coat anything but was very direct when communicating. Mary B. Roman enjoyed traveling and one of her favorite places to travel was to Georgia. She looked forward to visiting her family, especially her cousin, Rose Greene whom she loved deeply. Mary met the loved of her life, Robert Hall Sr. and to this union five children were born. She later married Charlie Frank Roman and they were married for 40 years. Mrs. Mary B. Roman leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Patricia Hall of Atlanta, GA and Cynthia Hall of Mt. Morris, MI; 3 sons, Robert (Barbara) Hall of Flint, Ronald (Pattie) Hall of Desoto, TX and Andrew (Rev. Diane) Hall; 5 step-children, Patricia Herbert, all of Flint, Rita Wright of Arlington, TX, Larry (Patricia) Roman of Philadelphia, PA, Calvin Roman Sr. and Alfred Roman, both of Flint; 19 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; 4 sisters, Eva Taylor, Evelyn Barton, Shirley Barton, all of Flint and Diane Webber of Grand Blanc, MI; brother, LS Barton Jr. of Flint; 8 sisters-in-law, Ardean Stinson of Atlanta, GA, Lucida Barton of Flint, Lucinda King, Lula Hearn, Betty Hill, Louise Jennings, Peggy Leonard, all of LaGrange, GA and Helen Newsom of New Britain, CT; a host of cousins including special cousin, Rose Greene; a host of friends including special friends, Rosie Cole, Clara Turner and Lizzie Cannon. Mrs. Roman was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Frank Roman and Robert Hall Sr.; grandson, Antwan Hall; great-grandson, Shmonta Hall; sister, Charlie Moore; brothers, Herman Stinson and Johnnie Tucker Jr.; step-sons, Charlie F. Roman Jr. and Jimmy Roman; step-grandson, Richard Herbert; brothers-in-law, Otis Roman, Amos Roman, Raymond Roman, Junior Roman, Romalic Roman, James Roman, Buford Roman and Lon G. Roman; sisters-in-law, Hattie Roman, Rosa Taylor, and Sara Harris; a host of other sisters and brothers-in-law, and relatives of the Hall family. The family would like to express special thanks to Church of the Harvest International family, New Creation Church of God family and Hurley Medical Center.
