Mrs. Mary Mahaliah Recio

RECIO, Mrs. Mary M. - Age 69, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Thursday, May 17, 2018 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, with funeral service commencing at 2:00PM, Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Thursday. Mrs. Recio will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Mary M. Recio was born September 5, 1948 in Alma, Michigan, the daughter of Maria Gamboa Cruz and Francisco Recio. She was a resident of Flint, Michigan and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1966.” Mary resided in New York City, NY for many years and while there she managed restaurants, gift shops and ultimately worked for the New York City School System as a Paraprofessional. She worked at IS 237 with visually impaired children where she taught them life skills. Mary returned to Flint in 1999 after the death of her father so that she could be closer to her mother as she progressed in age. She was a very friendly, carefree and giving person. Mary had a heart for the less fortunate and children. Mrs. Mary M. Recio leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Charles “Sonny” L. Gonder of Flint; daughter, Tina Williams; 2 sons, Mario Taylor and Antoine (Tabatha) Goulbourne; step-son, Ian Gonder; 9 grandchildren, Davon Goulbourne of Atlanta, GA, Courtney Williams of Snellville, GA, Amber Wong, Mekiah Goulbourne, Kaila Goulbourne, Silas Goulbourne, Uriah Goulbourne, all of Lawrenceville, GA, Casey Gonder of Bowie, MD and Charles Gonder of Flint; 3 great-grandchildren, Jace A. Lewis of Snellville, GA, Charlie Gonder and Coco Gonder, both of Flint; 3 sisters, Carmen (Hank) Thompson, Tina (Jerry) Nippa and Olga Recio; 3 brothers, Gil (Barb) Recio, Henry Gamboa and Jose (Rosemarie) Cruz; countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Recio was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Gamboa Cruz and Francisco Recio. The family would like to express special thanks to Deloris Couture “Aunt Dee Dee”, Maria Taylor and all of the Hurley Medical Center ICU staff and especially, Nic, her nurse to the end.
