MONTGOMERY, Mother Mary Izora - Age 93, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1215 E. Downey Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Morris A. Collins, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday, Mrs. Montgomery will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Mother Mary Izora Montgomery was born March 15, 1923 In DeKalb, Mississippi, the daughter of Henry Horace and Mary Anderson Roberts. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Unity Spring Missionary Baptist Church, which began her Christian walk. Mother Montgomery attended Little Rock Grade School in DeKalb, MS and attended high school at St. Joseph in Meridian, MS. She rounded out her educational career at Mott College in Flint, MI. Mother Montgomery was married to the late Pastor James C. Montgomery and made Flint their home. Together they joined Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle under Rev. Timmons and after several years. Rev. Montgomery organized Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She served on many auxiliaries and remained faithful to the word of God, until her death. Mother Montgomery became a housekeeper and cook for several prominent residents of Flint and was well known for her yeast rolls and cakes. Mother Mary Izora Montgomery leaves to cherish her memory: son, Talmadge (Brenda) Montgomery of Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Shawnetta (Curtis) Robinson of Houma, LA, and Maurice (Amy) Matthews of Katy, TX; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Leah) Diggs of San Antonio, TX, Brandel (US Army Active Duty) in Texas, Kenyon and DeShaun of Houma, LA, Maurice and Malachi, both of Texas; great-great-grandchildren, Brendan, Alayah, Braxton, and Karson; great-niece, Jovita (Dwight) Satchell of Orange Park, FL; sister, Julia Inez Bailey of DeKalb, MS; brothers, Calvin Curtis Roberts, Everett Paul (Annie Lou) Roberts, all of Flint and George Clark (Mel) Roberts; aunt, Myrtle Moore, all of DeKalb, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mother Montgomery was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pastor James C. Montgomery; sisters, Lee Pearl Walton, and Sadie Rochelle Foster; brothers, Talmadge Depriest Roberts and Vertis C. Roberts. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Morris A. Collins Sr., Rev. Otis Jenkins and the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church family.
