MITCHELL, Mrs. Mary - Age 80, passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and friends will assemble at the Chapel 1:30 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Mitchel will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 PM - 6:00 PM. Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Kathryn Mitchell “Kat” was born January 3, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Hattie (Thomas) and Rev. General Gray Sr. Mary enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, going to the casino and traveling. Mrs. Mary Kathryn Mitchell “Kat” leaves to cherish her memories: son, Terry (Denise) Gray of Flint; 8 granddaughters, Erica Waiters of Richmond, VA, Raynia Gray, LaTarie Gray, Monique Gowder, Dorothy Nelson, Crystal Simbler, all of Flint and Ashanti Milow of Kentucky; 8 grandsons, Terry (NaTasha) Gray Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Julius Gray of Charleston, SC, Jermaine Gray of Gulf Port, MS, Shawn Gray, Rock Clark, both of Flint, LaVoid McCullough of Summerville, NJ, Bennie McCombs Jr. of Iowa and Michael Waiters of Virginia; 5 great-grandchildren, MaKayla Waiters, Eric Waiters, both of Richmond, VA, Julius Gray, Juliuno Gray, both of Flint and Andrez Collazo of Florida; brothers, Melvin Gray; nephews, Curtis Jamison of Flint, Benjamin Gray of Grand Rapids, MI; nieces, Cleo Jenkins, Janet Bond, Lisha Jamison, all of Flint, Shirley Gray and Beverly Gray, both of South Bend, IN; sister-in-law, Queene Gray of Miami, FL special friend/sister, Evelyn Redwine; best friend, Louis “B.B. Abrams; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Doris Gowder and Etta Gray. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Chastity Gray; grandsons, Calvin Munerlyn and Quintevis Lyles; parents, Hattie (Thomas) and Rev. General Gray Sr.; 6 sisters, Sylvia Null, Bertha “Boostie” Jenkins, Mildred Clay, Dorothy Jamison, Frances Hamilton and Bobby Jean Gray; 5 brothers, Preston, Benjamin, General Benjamin, Lincoln and Randy Gray; niece, Sylvia Jones; nephew, Harry Jamison. The family would like to express special thanks to nurse practitioner, Cherrelle Shells, Dr. K. Ahmed, Dr. Kulture of the Cancer Center and Dr. Hasine.
